If You Left Last Night's Red Sox-Dodgers Game Early You Should Be Arrested
There’s a lot of things I can’t believe about last night. I can’t believe Walker Buehler put his nuts on the table and pitched one of the great World Series games I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe Nathan Eovaldi then came out of the pen hours later and all but matched Buehler’s efforts. I can’t believe Jackie hit that shot off Kenley Jansen. I can’t believe that umpire’s strike zone. I can’t believe Mookie Betts went 0-for-2000. I can’t believe Xander Bogaerts came up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, the same Xander Bogaerts who was tops in the League in OPS with two outs and runners in scoring position throughout the regular season, hit a ball an inch into fair play to end the inning. I can’t believe Max Muncy was granted a walk for completely swinging at a pitch. I can’t believe Ian Kinsler. I can’t believe Drew Pomeranz almost pitched. I can’t believe Clayton Kershaw pinch-hit and kinda sorta hit a rope. I can’t believe everyone on both teams from innings 10-18 went up to bat and tried to hit a home run instead of find a way to get on base. I can’t believe Cora attempted to bunt to set up Sandy Leon.
I also can’t believe that anyone left that game before it ended last night.
If this game happens in July, in the middle of the week, against the Padres, by all means get the hell out of there. I’d argue you shouldn’t have even been there in the first place. There’s too many ways to live life, I get it. But man, Game 3 of the World Series? Before midnight? On a Friday? I don’t see how you leave that game. I get that LA has traffic and nowhere else in the world does but still, it wasn’t fucking 3 in the morning like it was on the east coast. That place was clearing out 2-3 hours before Max Muncy decided to end things once and for all. That’s a mere 4-5 hours into a game and WELL before midnight. It’s the goddamn World Series for Christ sake. And it’s even crazier to me because Chavez Ravine famously puts up massive attendance numbers for the regular season year-in, year-out.
I get it was the longest postseason game in history, which is all the more reason to stay. It’s like when Wahlberg left the Super Bowl at halftime when the Patriots were down 28-3. Completely inexcusable in every sense of the word. That type of quitter LA attitude just doesn’t cut it in the midst of an all out war like this.
You know who wouldn’t dare miss out on a SECOND of history like this? That’s right.
