Chris Pratt's Next Project Is Already A Must Watch

(Variety) “With “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” postponed for the foreseeable future, Chris Pratt looks to have found his next film — he is in negotiations to star in Taylor Sheridan’s new writing and directing gig.

The film, which David Heyman is producing, follows a former special forces commando (Pratt), who’s recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team targeting drug dealers who are protected by the CIA.”

This is HUUUUUUGE news. Most people with a working brain are familiar with Chris Pratt, and if you aren’t familiar with Taylor Sheridan, you’re about to be. I blogged about him in part of my love letter to his genre of choice, Neo-westerns, a few months ago. He is an absolute master of the craft, as evident in pretty much all of his big projects:

He wrote all of these, and also directed ‘Wind River’ and ‘Yellowstone’. All of these films were top 5 movies for me on the respective years that they came out, and KFC assured me that ‘Yellowstone’ is actually quite good as well. If it isn’t clear, I fucking love this guy. Let’s watch some clips real quick.

The border scene and “Why are you flanking me” were two of the most anxiety-inducing scenes I’ve seen in the last 10 years. I also love Chris Pratt, and have been a huge stan of him since his “Parks & Recreation” days. I also think he is capable of being serious, so long as he gets to show some comedic chops. His balance of serious:funny was very off in “Passengers”, but great in “The Magnificent 7″ even though of neither of those were very good movies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a really funny moment in a Sheridan joint, but I’m sure either he will adapt for Pratt or get a good stoic performance from him. Inter-agency medeling with a drug-dealing theme is right in Sheridan’s wheelhouse, and I’m super excited to see how this plays out.
