College Hockey Weekend Preview

Providence College v Massachusetts

Week one of the season is officially in the books, even though some teams still haven’t started yet, most of Division 1 College Hockey is underway. A lot of non-conference games this weekend, some very interesting ones too. I’m a huge fan of the non-conference games as well, I don’t think there is enough of it in college hockey. Anyways, here are my three favorite series this weekend.

Minnesota State at North Dakota

Friday- 7:37pm CT

Saturday- 7:07pm CT

The Mavericks of Minnesota State are buzzing after last weekend’s sweep against BU. Pretty shocking to be honest, the Mavs lost some crucial players last season and I wans’t really expecting them to get going until a little later in the season. NoDak on the other hand had a terrible opening weekend, going 0-1-1 to Bemidji State. Not really sure what to expect of this Sioux team. I thought they’d be pretty good this year and it is still early, but another tough weekend may be pretty detrimental to the Fighting Sioux. I like a weekend split.

Massachusetts at Ohio State

Friday- 7:05pm ET

Saturday- 5:05pm ET

This definitely the game of the weekend. NewMass vs #1 Ohio State. 2017 4th overall pick Cale Makar vs an absolutely loaded Ohio State offense. The Minutemen will travel to Columbus for a weekend series with Mason Jobst and the Buckeyes that will have just about all the eyes of the college hockey world watching (so all six of us). I’m a huge Cale Makar guy. Players like him don’t grow on trees. He’s a two way defenseman that can be a puck mover and a shutdown defenseman. Kid was an absolute stud at the WJC last year and got asked to play for Team Canada at the Olympics (he declined). I do like OSU this weekend though….Buckeyes sweep.

Maine at Minnesota Duluth

Friday- 7:07pm ET

Saturday- 7:07pm ET

Two of the best jerseys in college hockey going at it this weekend with Maine traveling to Duluth to play against the Bulldogs. The reason I highlighted this game is because it can either go two ways. Duluth could get back on track and come out and put on a show all weekend orrrrr they’ll continue the natty hangover. If you’re a betting man and your site takes college hockey, it’d probably be a smart move to bet on Duluth. Give me a Bulldogs sweep.
