I Don't Care How Many Times It Happens, Kids Getting On Stage And Jamming With The Foo Fighters Will Always Be Awesome (And Dave Grohl Gave This One His Guitar!)

I write these blogs at least once a month, where someone’ll get on stage with the Foo Fighters to jam, and I talk about how cool a moment it is, how great a human Dave Grohl is, and usually, I’m pretty impressed by the talent of those hopping up there and rippin’. I guess I shouldn’t be at this point, because if you’re at a Foo Fighters show in 2018, you’ve gotta know the drill. You don’t volunteer your musical services unless they’re legit, because Dave will not hesitate to grab you hand and drag you up there if he thinks there’s even a slight chance you wanna play with the Foo Fighters!

Collier here, a 10-year-old from Kansas City, was spotted and selected by Dave Grohl the other night as a guitar player, and once he was up on stage, he was asked which songs he knew how to play – to which he responded, “I know a lot of Metallica songs.”

The kid rips into ‘Enter Sandman’, then, and Taylor Hawkins comes right in with him on the drums, Grohl following on vocals for a verse/chorus…shows off some more skill with pieces of ‘Welcome Home (Sanitarium)’ and ‘Wherever I May Roam’…and then something fucking crazy happens. Something that took my breath away, and actually put a lump in my throat, choking me up a bit.

Grohl looks at Collier, points to his guitar, now strapped around the kid in front of him, and says, “You wanna keep that? You want that?”

The 10-year-old is pretty much frozen in shock, and Dave says “Tour’s almost over, I might as well give him my fuckin’ guitar!” before giving him a hug and sending him back to his mom in the stands.

Seeing how much this guy cares about music, and making sure the next generation continues to play music, specifically psychical instruments, is just so damn inspiring. I think caring about anything that noble is, really. One watch through the 8-minute ‘PLAY’ documentary will show you what I mean, about Grohl making sure rock n’ roll never dies and whatnot, if you were unaware…

…or you could just watch the dude play music with his kid and look at his face while he does.

In classic Dave fashion, he yells to Collier as he’s leaving the stage, “If I see that shit on eBay next week, I’m gonna find you, Collier”, snapping back into rockstar mode after fading into awesome dad mode for a bit, and the show carried on, along with Collier’s music career – which I guarantee will never come to a close after this moment. He’ll be playing a guitar for the rest of his life, now, and that is beautiful.

God bless Dave Grohl, man, and by god I mean Dave Grohl.
