College Hockey Weekend Preview
While last weekend was the technical kick off of the college hockey season, I really think this weekend should be considered the opener. A ton more teams are in action and playing games that matter this week, so I decided to highlight a few weekend series that I’ll be keeping an eye on.
BU @ Minnesota State
I like this BU team a lot and Minnesota State lost some crucial guys at the end of last season. Definietly returning some good players in Jake Jaremko and Marc Michaelis, but the loss of Daniel Brickely and C.J. Suess may be too tough for the Mavs to get over this early in the season. I like BU here. But Minnesota State is a tough place to play. So I’m thinking either a 1-0-1 or a 1-1 weekend for the Terriers.
Minnesota Duluth @ Michigan Tech
Duluth is coming off a tough opening weekend against the Gophers. Going to be tough to go to Michigan Tech, which is always tough to play at, and try to bounce back. I like Duluth this weekend, but it definitely won’t be easy for the Bulldogs.
Boston College @ Wisconsin
I said it in my season preview blog that I like this BC team a lot. Maybe it’s just because I think Oliver Wahlstrom will be one of the best players in college hockey this season, but who knows. I’ll be looking forward to seeing how Wahlstrom does this weekend against some actual NCAA opponents out in Wisco. I think BC is a much better team than Wisco and I think they’ll sweep.
Ohio State @ Arizona State
Honestly, I just want to see how loaded this Ohio State team is. They are so good and going to be so fun to watch this year. I think they’ll have their way with ASU, but that’s a program i’m enamored with as well. 10 years from now we’ll all be talking about ASU when it comes to college hockey.
