Jordie's Promise: I Am Going To Continue Blogging About Auston Matthews Daily Until He Stops Having Multi-Point Nights
We’re only a week in to the 2018-19 NHL season but I’m pretty sure I just saw a report that Auston Matthews has barged into Gary Bettman’s office, threw all of his shit out the window and declared that he’s the league’s commissioner right now. And you know what? I think Gary has no other choice but to respect it and give up his title to Auston. Because in just 4 games, Auston Matthews has already thrown up 7 goals and 10 points on the season. He had 2 goals in the season opener. He had a goal and an assist against Ottawa in the 2nd game of the season. Then he had 2 and 2 against Chicago. And then last night he had another 2-goal game against Dallas.
What a sick son of a bitch. I know it’s just the first 4 games of the season but that puts Matthews on pace for 205 points this season. Wayne Gretzky put up 205 points as a 22-year-old in the 1983-84 season. Matthews just turned 21 last month so is he better than Wayne Gretzky? That’s not for me to say. What I will say, however, is that the rest of the league should be so pissed off at the Golden State Warriors for ruining the NHL and inspiring the Leafs to start their own Super Team.
4 players from Toronto in the top 8 point scorers so far this season. Granted, there’s a pretty decent amount of guys tied with Tavares at 6 points. But yeah, that’s a pretty decent start for the Leafs. Who needs defense when you’re scoring 7 goals a night? Not the Leafs, that’s who.
