Torey Krug Suffers Left Ankle Injury And Is Expected To Miss Up To Three Weeks
The Bruins announced today that Torey Krug has suffered an injury to his left ankle in a preseason game against the Flyers on the 29th and will miss up to 3 weeks. Tough news for the B’s defenseman who has been rehabbing his way back from a previous ankle injury suffered last season, when he broke his left ankle against the Lightning in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Rough loss for the Bruins. While B’s fans might not actually appreciate what Krug brings to the ice, he is a crucial part of this roster and in particular, the PowerPlay. The team will reportedly look to Charlie McAvoy, Urho Vaakanainen or Matt Grzelcyk to fill #47’s spot.
Krug is definitely one of the top puck moving dman in the game and there is no denying that. We can sit here all day and talk about his defensive game, which has improved tremendously over the past few years. But as John-Michael Liles pointed out when we had him on Spittin’ Chiclets, puck moving defenseman don’t grow on trees and are a hot commodity right now in the NHL. Teams need guys like Torey Krug, the Bruins need Torey Krug.
Krug will also be missed in the locker room. While he may not have a letter on his jersey, Krug has a huge leadership role in the Bruins locker room, so they’ll definitely be lacking some veteran leadership without the veteran defenseman.
No Krug to start the season will definitely hurt the Bruins, but hopefully they’ll get a good look at some of the young guys, mainly 2017 1st round pick Urho Vaakanainen, who the B’s selected 18th overall out of Finland. At 19-years-old it will be good to see how he can handle some NHL competition and contribute for this team down the line.
