Kelly Bryant Says He Wasn't "Given a Fair Shot" This Year at Clemson - Dabo Swinney Responds "This Isn't Middle School"

So the big news today is that Clemson QB Kelly Bryant has decided to transfer, and salvage his last year of eligibility under the new NCAA rule. He says he wasn’t given a fair shot and had no choice but to leave. I hate that so much. Dabo Swinney responded quickly saying he definitely got his fair shot and that this isn’t middle school. You have to make tough decisions at this level and it’s about getting the best people on the field. I fucking love Dabo Swinney. He’s a genuinely great dude and LOVES his players. This is how he embraced Kelly last year after they lost to Bama.

If you don’t think for a second Dabo made this decision with the best intentions for Kelly Bryant you are outside of your mind.

“Certainly if he walked in here today and said, ‘Hey Coach, I don’t want to play the rest of the year unless you’ve got to have me,’ well O.K., if that’s what you want to do I’m all for it. I love Kelly,” Swinney told reporters Tuesday. “I would be disappointed in that because we need him. But I wouldn’t judge him for that.”

But Swinney doesn’t think Bryant will leave. “If I was worried about that or if I was deceitful in some way, I could have held the coaches up and said, ‘Let’s make sure we start him for Syracuse. That way he’s got no option. I don’t think like that. I don’t operate that way.” -SI

Dabo easily could have started Kelly this weekend against Syracuse and thus fucked him over with the eligibility rules, keeping him trapped at Clemson. You can play up to four games and still transfer and preserve that year under the new rules. This would be Bryant’s 5th game this Saturday. You know why he didn’t do that? Because he cares about his player and wants the best for him. He knows he can go somewhere next year and improve his draft stock. The fact of the matter is that Trevor Lawrence is a God-child and gives Clemson their best chance to win the title this year and the next two years after that until he leaves to be the number one overall pick in the draft. Look at their drive comparisons so far this year. Bryant’s is good, Trevor’s is laugh out loud amazing.

I hate that Bryant thinks he didn’t get a fair shot. You played 18 games as a starter dude. You’re a good player, but the freshman is better. That’s life pal. Just because you were the starter last year doesn’t mean you get to be handed it again. There’s no such thing as fair in this world. Lawrence is better, so he gets to be the guy now. Dabo loves his guys and did this for Bryant to have a future. He’s the fucking man and I will not tolerate any slander towards his way.
