The NCAA Keeps America Safe Once Again: Kentucky Soccer Players Suspended For Playing A Pickup Game With The Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters Perform Live In Brisbane

LEXINGTON, Ky.What should have been a moment of nirvana has turned into a headache for some University of Kentucky athletes.

Several UK soccer players will have to sit out two supervised team activities, such as a practice or meetings, after joining in a pickup soccer game with the Foo Fighters and UK coaches before a May 1 concert at Rupp Arena, the NCAA ruled.

The pickup game took place the week before final exams, when the NCAA prohibits coaches from being involved with players in an event like a pickup game.

The NCAA doesn’t get enough credit; I think people are just too numb to it by now.  In an era of fake news and outrage nobody cares about the heartwarming stories.  Nobody cares about people like the NCAA who are on the front lines of keeping America and college athletics safe, so they’ll just keep on pushing forward in the shadows.  Like would anybody have even heard of this story if I didn’t bring it up right now?  How they stepped in when nobody else even seemed to care and put a stop to college kids playing pickup soccer with members of the superstar rock band The Foo Fighters after they were personally invited to come over and play?  Who else has the morals and fortitude to make a call like that when no one else will?

The UK players were originally playing in their own pickup game at the other end of the field until a member of the Foo Fighters invited them to play “as they were getting tired and wanted the energy level to be raised.”

Three current UK men’s soccer players, one former men’s soccer player and one current women’s soccer player participated in the pickup game after being invited to join.

Kentucky self-reported the violation, according to a Courier Journal open-records request.

And, once again, it’s repeat offenders Kentucky.  The same school that tried to sneak a recruit saying “hi” to Drake past all the watchdogs.  Of course, they were found out, and punished for their crimes.  But without the NCAA, who knows what would have happened?

Don’t worry about the NCAA, don’t cry for them, they don’t need the applause.  They’ll just keep plugging along behind the scenes keeping athletes from enjoying any possible enjoyable life event no matter how minuscule as they play for a billion dollar corporation for free.  Not all heroes wear capes.
