Let's Check In To See How Some Saints Fans Are Handling Having A Male Cheerleader (Hint: Not Well)
Source - Jesse Hernandez made history and made his mom proud Friday night when he became the first male cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints’ Saintsations, becoming one of three male cheerleaders in the NFL. He also brought out the ugly side of some people.
Alright, before we get to the ugly, let’s talk about the beautiful. Because that performance was nothing short of a masterpiece. I haven’t seen that much attitude on a TV screen since Johnny Weir sang Paparazzi on Lip Sync Battle. The whole thing is exactly what I thought it was going to be; a lot of head movement and a lot of upstaging. Sure, he’s not at Damien’s level but he’s well on his way.
Now let’s take a look to see how he’s being received. I’m sure it’s nothing but well wishes and positive feedback…
Granted, those people are most likely the vocal minority and the vast majority of fans don’t care either way, but it’s still shocking to see. Especially considering none of them hid their real names. Like how stupid do you have to be to make those comments on someone’s post as yourself? Rule number one of being a troll is make a burner account. Not only that, clearly none of them have an appreciation for showmanship because he was far and away the best dancer on the field. At least he doesn’t seem to be bothered by it.
Hernandez was thrilled by his debut, posting on Instagram:
The saints didn’t win but i sure did! … i can’t thank these amazing people for making my first gameday a success! The love and support from all makes my heart so happy!
What a world. Keep doing you, Jesse.
