The Latest Chapter In The Swaggy P Vs. Gilbert Arenas Beef

Nick Young and Gilbert Arenas are cut from the same cloth. Lightening-rod, shit-talking, sharp-shooters. So Nick Young flaming Arenas’ new boxy Mercedes couldn’t exist without the requisite clap back.

That caption again:

Wow. Gilbert Arenas proving his aim sharp as ever.

The love-hate rift between the two former teammates gave us a classic video back in 2016. Gilbert Arenas broke into Nick Young’s house, gave him shit about his recent divorce from Iggy Azalea,  threw Nick Young’s son’s scooter across the yard in front of the crying toddler, knocked the kids toys off the couch while he was playing, painted over Iggy’s name in a bedroom and generally disrespected the man in a way that has rarely been seen by humankind.

But it goes back further than that.

In an old interview with DJ Vlad, Nick Young talks about Gil taking the wheels off his car when he was a rookie on the Wizards. He was supposed to go get donuts as part of his rookie duties, but after coming down with a bout of excessive shit talking, he exited the donut shop to find his car on cinder blocks. Later, when Arenas gave Young his credit card to go to the Apple store to pick him up an iPad, Young retaliated by buying himself a MacBook on Arenas’ dime.

He tells the whole story here around the four minute mark.

The two are clearly friendly enough to have a healthy shit-talking relationship.

And also friendly enough to be in situations where they’re canoodling with merpeople.

Media members often overstate beefs (a la the Kyle Kuzma-Lonzo Ball “beef” this summer, or the Kevin Durant-C.J. McCollum “beef”) in the dry summer months. In reality it’s just friends publicly tearing one another to shreds in a healthy tête-à-tête to keep their teeth sharp. So let’s not overstate it, but just sit back with our popcorn and enjoy the show.

Kudos to Gilbert Arenas to staying in the spotlight, lest we all forget what a beast he was.
