What Coach Has A Death Wish By Calling Nick Saban Overrated And A Cheater?

[CBS Sports] - “If you had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country every year [you’d win like Nick Saban]. He shows up at every single game with a better roster than the teams he ‘s playing. … If you count cheating and getting the best players in the country as part of running a program, he’s the best in the country. It’s like saying an NFL coach is the best coach in the league if he gets 25 first-round picks every year.”

So CBS Sports is running its Candid Coaches series for football and they started yesterday with the underrated/overrated coaches in America. The above quote is from an anonymous coach about Nick Saban and calling him overrated.

One question. Who has a death wish? You know Saban will find out who said this and will make sure they are never coaching again. I also love the hypocrisy here. Sure, Saban is the only coach in America cheating and I’m sure this coach – we’ll take guesses at who it is soon – plays exactly by the outdated NCAA rulebook.

Also love the getting best players dig. That’s half the game when it comes to coaching in college. Recruiting is arguably the most important part to a coaches job. You have to bring in the best players, that’s simply just doing your job therefore I’d say Nick Saban is pretty damn good at that aspect of his job. Also, the NFL coach getting 25 first-round picks? The Browns have roughly 100 top-5 picks on their team. How has that turned out?

So who do we think this coach is? Clearly he’s one that’s a bit of a loose cannon and has zero fear. I’m a bit terrified of writing about Nick Saban, let alone saying he’s overrated. Here are some of my top options.

Lane Kiffin (Florida Atlantic)
Lane worked under Nick Saban as he worked his way back up the coaching ranks. We know Lane is willing to say anything and the one reason I don’t think it’s him is he’s crazy enough to put his name with the quote. But, if you had to deal with this, wouldn’t you say something too:

Scott Frost (Nebraska)
Could this be jealousy that Alabama is being called national champs and not UCF where Frost was the head coach? I’m not ruling out. If UCF is crazy enough to throw parades and continue to call itself national champions when it didn’t win the national title, I’m not going to rule out Frost saying this.

Tom Herman (Texas)
One of my favorite rumors right now is that Tom Herman started the Urban Meyer witch hunt – as referred to by dumb Ohio State fans. Herman is being called the whistleblower after spending time working for Meyer. Could he be trying to take down all the top coaches in the game? Calling Nick Saban a cheater and hoping there’s an investigation into his recruiting practices? Could be possible.

Gus Malzahn (Auburn)
War damn Eagle.

Bill Snyder (Kansas State)
I just want the image of Bill Snyder giving anonymous quotes and going after Nick Saban to be out there. I can’t get enough of this old man.

Who are you going with?
