The Phillies PUMMEL The Reds With A Franchise Record Tying Seven Home Runs

Screen Shot 2018-07-27 at 9.59.31 AM

It only took 4 months, but this picture of Gabe is finally relevant. The Phillies hit 7 freaking home runs last night as the Gabe Kapler workout plan looks to be showing some results in the clubhouse. The offense hasn’t exploded like that since the Rico Brogna era.

Now that is a tweet my friends. What legendary names on that list like Bobby Estallela. Remember he was supposed to be the Mike Piazza and Ivan Rodriguez love child when in reality he was just a super roided out Italian guy. Good times. Also, Kevin Sefcif or better known as the 90s Steve Jeltz. Somehow, Terry Francona had this squad of misfits only a few games out of the Wild Card by the end of July. That was before management told him to go fuck himself, gave them no reinforcements at the deadline and in turn they shit the bed by Mid-August. We go on to fire Terry and the rest is history. 20 years later I’m still not bitter about this, I promise. Allow me to digress.

Two from Rhys Hoksins, Nick Williams, and Maikel Franco. Rhys now has 6 in his last six games. His post derby OPS is now 1.510. I don’t have to ask the question because I am sure that’s good. Williams’ 2 bombs out of his four hits, makes him the 3rd Phillies player with an .800 OPS. The Phillies haven’t finished any season with 3 guys that high since 2011. And Maikel continues this ridiculous stretch of his, hitting his 4th HR in his last 7. I hate to brag, so I’ll just say you”re welcome.

You know, I have considered it.

The Phillies did exactly what they needed to do in Cincy last night. They walked into the ballpark of a last place team and destroyed them. After starting out the season 17-20 on the road, the Phillies have now won 9 of their last 15 road games. The goal for a playoff team is to hover just above .500 on the road and the Phillies are fast approaching that.

Ranger Suarez who made his MLB debut last night impressed me. Since I am in Europe, I am only watching the condensed games so I am biased in my analysis. He looked good in my opinion, going 5 IP and allowing for 4 runs. He just made 2 bad pitches, which is something rookie pitchers in their debuts tend to do. I liked his stuff last night, touching 95 from the left side. I also loved his change up, which he threw for confidence from what I witnessed. He did strike out Votto with 94 cheese on the black looking and no one strikes out Votto looking. Suarez was designated back to Lehigh after this game, but I’m sure we will be seeing more of him come roster expansion time.

The bullpen had another scoreless outing last night and have allowed just 1 run in their last 18 and 2/3 IP. Luis Garcia has found himself again, which is always good to see. The hard throwing Righty struck out the sides and now has 11 K’s in his last 6 IP. The Bullpen’s July ERA is now 2.50 which is still the best mark in baseball.

The Phillies are now 14 games above .500, the Washington Nationals are talking about selling and the Braves have lost 15 of their last 26. The NL East is back to it’s natural state and I am loving every minute of it.

Like Fleetwood Mac said, “Never going back again.” Gotta stay bold and as always…

Go Phils.
