Modell's Steals The Spotlight From The Lakers As They Announce Showtime Is Back For The LeBron Era

How about Modell’s out here? This was floating around Twitter yesterday with the reveal of the LeBron jerseys for sale. It’s actually the first look we’ve gotten at a LeBron Lakers jersey and there’s a significant change with the look.

The Showtime era look is back. The Lakers have rocked the yellow jerseys with white numbers and purple lettering. Here’s a look:

That was obviously from last year. There are the thicker shoulder straps and you can see the lettering and the purple piping down the sides vs the Showtime look:

Now this hasn’t been ‘confirmed’ by the Lakers yet, but if it’s for sale and we’ve seen a shirsey with a similar look out there too from Nike. Now, the big thing that Lakers fans might notice from the Showtime jerseys to the LeBron jerseys are different color shades. The yellow that you see now is a lighter and the purple numbers stick out a bit more. I’m a fan of them.

But, the real story here might be that Modell’s is out here not giving a shit about the Lakers release and just doing it themselves. Publish first, ask questions later is a strategy that I’m a big fan of and apparently Modell’s is too. All in all a win for LeBron and the Lakers. The Showtime era jerseys are what made the Lakers look iconic.
