Jim Kelly Just Found Out He's Cancer Free Again And It's Awesome

What awesome news for Jim Kelly. The Bills legend has been fighting his ass off against cancer since 2013.

It started as oral cancer and spread to his nasal cavities. He had surgery after surgery and was declared cancer free in 2014. Unfortunately in March, the HOF quarterback found out that his oral cancer returned. He underwent a 12-hour surgery and a jaw reconstruction in NYC earlier this summer.

And apparently it worked. His latest scans came back clean. Like his wife said, the pain is still a problem (as expected with over 35 radiation treatments and chemo and surgery in the last 5 years). But most importantly, the cancer kicked rocks again.

Go Jim, go!

As a cancer survivor myself, being told you have cancer is absolute the worst feeling in the world, not just for you but the people who love you. On the flip, being told you’re cancer free is hands down the best feeling in the world. I’ll be cancer free for five years this November. Every six months, I go see my oncologist and I pray I leave the cancer center still in remission. I can’t imagine being told that it’s come back like the Kelly family had to hear earlier this year. I can imagine it’s your worst nightmare.

But Jim Kelly is living proof that it can be beaten again. The Kelly family got ‘the good news’ today and I bet they are celebrating like crazy.

With all the shit going on in the world, these types of stories never get old. Jim Kelly is a fighter. And a winner. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence just seven days after he accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance with this unbelievable speech.

“Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for tomorrow.”

Remission is something that nobody – no matter type of cancer, degree or length fighting – will ever take for granted. You will fight for the rest of your life, but you’re not alone.

Never give up. Never stop fighting. Fuck Cancer.
