Gary Sanchez's Inexcusable Laziness Loses The Yankees The Game And He Needs To Be Benched Multiple Games For It

Well, that’s the most frustrating loss of the season without a doubt. Gary Sanchez’s fingerprints were all over it and in no bigger spot than the last play of the game where he clearly just didn’t give a shit and casually took a stroll down to first base. I mean the moment Hicks beat out Adames to second I yelled in excitement thinking the game was tied for sure. For Gary to be thrown out at first by five feet without even the threat of being safe was fucking insane. You almost thought he fell down after getting out of the box it took him so long. Nope, the dude just dogged it the whole way until the last second and that’s the reason the Yankees didn’t tie the game, and instead lost. It’s fucking inexcusable. It’s Robbie Cano shit. For a guy that is hitting as low as he is to pull that crap is fucking mind bottling. After the game Boone kept saying he had to watch the play back to see what happened. Dude it took him ten seconds to get down the line, I’m pretty sure everyone saw he jogged down the base path like he was having a walk in the park. The crazy part was that Gary’s antics before that inning were enough to warrant an ass-whipping from the media and Boone alone.

In the first inning with two outs and a man on second, Gary and Severino had a cross-up. Sanchez called for a fastball and Severino thought he meant slider. After the game Severino took responsibility for the fuck-up and that stuff happens. Fine. The part that makes me want to light myself on fire is where Gary took another nice stroll to the ball as it skidded away. That allowed Jake Bauers enough time to score from SECOND on a passed ball.

Inexcusable. After the half inning Severino confronted Gary in the dugout and let out his frustration on Gary’s laziness.

After looking back at the video I don’t think Gary was really talking back to Sevy here as much as Severino was getting into his face and making sure he knew that shit doesn’t fly. If Sanchez is in the lineup tomorrow then Boone should be fired plain and simple. He won’t be don’t worry. There’s just no way. If Girardi was still the manager I bet his post game press conference would have been a lot harsher and Gary’s punishment been more severe. This is Boone’s first real test as a manager. Forget what happened in April, it’s late July and the Boston Red Sox own a season high six game lead in the division. I suggested on Twitter that Aaron Judge hold a player’s only meeting to get this team on the same page. Maybe that should be CC’s job or Gardy’s, but they got to wake up somehow. You can’t come out of the break like this while the Sox continue to obliterate their competition. The Yankees don’t deserve the division right now. They’re going to be playing the A’s or Mariners at this point in a win or go home situation in the Wild Card game. They have to snap the fuck out of this fog they’ve been in since beating the Mariners at home a little ways back otherwise we’re back to a coin flip ballgame to decide our fate. I can’t do that shit again.

Now we’ll get to Aaron Boone’s big fuck up because he is being spared thanks to Gary’s shit-show. In the 9th inning, before Sanchez even came up, the Yankees put their first two batters on as Gardner reached on an infield single followed by an Aaron Judge walk. Didi Gregorius was due up against the left handed throwing Alvarado. The red-hot Giancarlo Stanton was waiting on deck, already having four hits on the night and having been nine for his last nine at Tropicana Field dating back to the last time the Yankees were here. Boone decided to have Didi bunt here and advance both runners. Didi did what was asked and set up the Yanks with 2nd and 3rd and one man out. Tampa obviously walked Stanton, with the base open, and took the bat out of his hands to set up the double play. Alvarado was not coming CLOSE to the strike zone. To not have Didi, who hits lefties fine, up there hacking was CRAZY to me. If Didi gets out then you have Stanton against a lefty with 1st and 2nd and 1 out. I don’t envision Kevin Cash walking Stanton to put the go ahead run at second, but if that’s the case then at least you gave Didi (your three hitter last night) a chance to tie the game. I don’t get it. There are spots where the bunt is useful, but not when you take the bat out of Giancarlo Stanton’s hands. Not when you have your three hitter who is hitting over .300 in the month of July to have him bunt. Boone is said to be a manager who goes by numbers. Well, if that’s the case then you let Didi swing and do not give the Rays a free out.

Boone looked at the numbers and said fuck that to having the top two guys listed below hit and instead the bottom two take hacks. WHAT THE FUCK

Gregorius .328/.371/.552
Stanton .344/.388/.574
Hicks .231/.385/.577
Sanchez .136/.203/.271

What happened? Hicks grounded out to third and then Gary pulled his bullshit. Awful. Just awful. A very bad job by Boone.

As for the rest of the game, Luis Severino struggled for the third start in a row. Last night he surrendered 11 hits and six runs as the Rays jumped on him. Since shutting out the Red Sox for six innings on July 1st, Luis has been mediocre at best. He’s given up two homers in each of those three starts and has failed to get deeper than five innings in any start. Every pitcher has their mini-slumps and this is Sevy’s. It happens, he’ll regain his Cy-Young form, although this recent run may have ruined his chances with how good Sale has been.

But just a terrible lose. Six back of the AL East. Gary Sanchez needs to be benched for a few games after this. I don’t care what kind of hitter he is, you have to make it clear this fucking trash won’t be tolerated. Jogging to the passed ball in the first and lolly gagging it to first to end the game is stuff that’ll get you sent down to the minors if you were some random player. What a joke. Figure it out guys. As for those that want Gary traded, let’s relax. I tweeted the deGrom thing as a joke. We know how good Gary can be, hopefully the vets were in his face last night and giving him the business. We all have loved this guy until 2018’s disaster season. We know how lethal his bat is. How incredible his arm is. You don’t give up on that I don’t care how low his batting average is. He just needs to be taught a listen after last night and wake up. He’ll be fine. The Yankees however, are running out of time.

P.S. The Yankees just congratulated their Heart and Hustle Award winner, back up catcher Austin Romine. That’s just laugh out loud funny timing.
