Roger Federer Just Blew a Two Sets To None Lead At Wimbledon And I'm Heartbroken

Day Nine: The Championships - Wimbledon 2018

I’m devastated. Flashback to two hours ago and Federer was serving for the match, up two sets to love with a match point! He was dominant from the start, having broken South African Kevin Anderson in the very first game. He breezed to an easy 6-2 first set, but found a little trouble in the 2nd when he was broken for the first time all tournament. Still, Fed immediately broke back and took the second set 7-6 in a tie break. In the 3rd set Roger had Anderson at break point/match point and shanked a passing shot where Anderson was at the net. Anderson held serve in that game, broke Fed in the next game, and held serve to win the set 7-5. It was the first time Fed had dropped a set at Wimbledon since last year’s semifinals, snapping a 34 set streak (matching his own record).

From that point on Federer wasn’t the same. His level dropped and he didn’t have the same fire power that he did in the first two sets. Kevin Anderson’s serve grew stronger and stronger, leaving Federer with minimal chances to break. Anderson broke later in the fourth to level the match at two a piece. How the fuck was this happening? Federer looked like he was playing random guys at a country club for the entire tournament and then all of a sudden was rendered mortal by the tall South African. Fed had played Anderson four times prior and had yet to drop a set.

The fifth set was back and forth on serve. Roger dominated with his serve, getting through his service games in less than a minute at a time, while Anderson had to battle. Roger still couldn’t capitalize and break him. Because Wimbledon doesn’t go to a fifth set tiebreak, the match continued on to 11 games a piece in the final set. That’s when Francis came over and tapped me on the shoulder asking if Roger was in trouble. The moment Francis touched me Roger went off the rails and lost the match. I blame him for this.

This is the first time in his career at Wimbledon that Fed had a match point and lost a match. Stunning. I can’t believe what I just watched. What is life? Federer is my everything. I wake up at 6AM during these two weeks to watch him and him only. I feel lifeless now.

Since Federer lost the fifth set, the price of tickets for the final, with many hoping for an epic Nadal-Federer match, have dropped drastically.

What a disaster. Del Potro just took the second set tie break over Nadal to even that match up at one a piece. Without Nadal, a once possible, incredible Wimbledon Final, could be Milos Raonic vs. Kevin Anderson. Yikes.
