Donald Trump Gets To Appoint A Second Supreme Court Justice And Shape The Court For Decades to Come

NY PostSupreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced Wednesday that he will step down from the bench on July 31 — giving President Trump another opportunity to nominate another conservative jurist.

“It has been the greatest honor and privilege to serve our nation in the federal judiciary for 43 years, 30 of those years on the Supreme Court,” the 81-year-old Kennedy said in a statement.

A President Reagan appointee, Kennedy has been on the high court since 1988 and was the longest-serving justice on the current court.

He was famed for frequently being a swing vote in 5-4 decisions on the deeply divided court.

One of the most understated aspects of the MAGA era is that Donald J. Trump gets to shape the future of the laws of this country for DECADES. Certain actions he takes as president can be reversed or revised after he’s gone, but the make up of the Supreme Court cannot. These motherfuckers are there until DEATH (or until they decide to retire, which they do strategically) and Trump’s about to appoint his second justice with the looming possibility of a third. Poor Ruth Ginsburg is 85-years-old and had one foot out the door until Hillary blew it and forced her into four more years on the grind. Now she’s battling it out to the bitter end, devoting her most valiant efforts towards making sure Trump is never allowed the opportunity to fill her seat.

No one’s appointed more than two judges since Ronald Reagan. Jimmy Carter got to appoint zero. Donald Trump has already appointed two and may get to appoint more.

Kennedy was long the “deciding vote” on the Supreme Court. CNN details what the timing and subsequent happenings from this retirement mean for our high court:

Kennedy’s decision to step down could transform the Supreme Court for generations. Trump will have his second opportunity to nominate a justice and will likely replace Kennedy with a young, conservative jurist. That would create a bloc of five staunch conservative justices who could move the court further to the right and cement a conservative majority for the foreseeable future.

With the midterm elections this fall and an uncertainty on the make up of Congress in 2019 and beyond (who must confirm Supreme Court nominees), Trump gets to appoint a young conservative to lockdown the Court for conservatives for decades.

That is VERY important.
