Western Kentucky Basketball Surprises Everyone In The Recruiting World
So this is massive, massive news for both college basketball and the NBA. Charles Bassey, was the No. 3 rated player in the class of 2019. There were rumors that he wanted to reclassify and get into the 2019 NBA Draft, mostly because there’s a sense that it’s a weaker Draft and he can get his money quicker.
Western Kentucky shocked everyone when it was announced he was committing to the Hilltoppers and already on campus. Bassey is a 6’10” big man that is coming off a big summer, including winning MVP at the Pangos All-American Camp.
Now, we know that WKU has a history with 5-star big men. Let’s hope this one ends up better. If you don’t remember, Rick Stansbury and WKU landed Mitchell Robinson last year, only for him to be on campus, say he wants to transfer, come back and then leave the program for good. It was a disaster and he never played 1 second for Western Kentucky. Luckily for WKU, I don’t see that happening with Bassey.
As for the college basketball world? C-USA is going to be a damn good mid-major conference yet again with WKU, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State and Old Dominion. WKU returns Lamonte Bearden, Josh Anderson and Taveion Hollingsworth to pair with Bassey and 4-star Dalano Banton.
Also, if you’re a lottery team for 2019, you just another player who is expected to be NBA ready in a year. With most big men leaving this year, the 2019 draft class will be headlined by Daniel Gafford, Jontay Porter and Charles Bassey for now.
