HBO Is Going To Make A "Game Of Thrones" Prequel Series That Will Go Through A Bunch Of Westeros History And Explain How The White Walkers Came To Power

The Wrap- HBO has officially picked up one of its “Game of Thrones” prequels to pilot, the network announced on Friday. The untitled project, from George R. R. Martin and “Kingsman” screenwriter Jane Goldman, is set thousands of years before the events of the current “Game of Thrones” series in the era known as the “Age of Heroes.”

According to HBO, the series will chronicle “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” In the mythology of “Game of Thrones” and Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, the “Age of Heroes” is the period when the First Men settled in Westeros and began to establish what would later become the Seven Kingdoms. The logline for the show promises: “From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

Goldman will write the pilot, based on a story she developed with Martin, and will also serve as showrunner. Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman will serve as executive producers. “Game of Thrones” creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are not involved with the series.

I’m sure the book readers are cumming themselves over this news, but as a Thrones TV watcher I admittedly have a slight chub going. Whenever I watched YouTubes about some of the of old Thrones backstories during the show’s offseasons because I am a complete loser, I always enjoyed learning about the things that happened years before the events of the show. And as a Star Wars fan that wishes they would touch on some characters and events outside of ones that were in the originals, I love that the source material will be nowhere near the group of characters we have lived and died and died and died and died and died with.

Give me some weirdo magic from those Children of the Forest tree fuckers. Show me if the Starks really do have some crazy wildling or magical bloodlines. I’ll even go to Braavos as long as you don’t turn one of your most entertaining characters into a Blindo that spends every waking of her day sweeping. And then have Dany’s great great great great great grandpappy turn everybody we grew to love over the years into ash with his dragons and sisters. Oh yeah and we get to see how the Night King went from some random guy slinging free newspapers in Boston to the leader of a massive army of undead maniacs. Just blogging this has me ready to down a YouTube rabbit hole and learn more about the fictional world created in the mind by some frumpy semi-retired author living in Arizona. That’s the kind of grip Thrones has on the world. Get me to 2019 already so I can see how those Benioff and Weiss mofos break my heart this time.

Epilogue (Fancy PS since it’s Thrones): I was asked to post the YouTube videos I watched to learn about GoT. There are a bunch that I don’t remember because I bounce around the Suggested Videos links. I would start with Alt Shift X and go from there.
