Wake Up With Anthony Rizzo's Tarp Catch

I wish I loved anything as much as Anthony Rizzo loves making catches on or near tarps. He’s usually good for a dugout catch or 2 a year as well. This one may be my favorite though. Ryan Braun hits what looks to be a routine popup near the seats down the first baseline. Rizzo takes 1 look at the ball, and then 1 look at the tarp, hops up on it, balances himself on it, takes one step onto the wall, and makes the catch while falling into the seats.

What concentration by Rizzo to make this catch too. I’ve never made a catch like this, but it can’t be easy. Having to find the tarp, balance on it, and then make the step onto the ledge all while fans are right below you? Sheesh. Quite a catch. I also love how he throws the ball back into the field of play while he’s standing in section 10, row 2.

Love the catch and love the effort by Rizzo on these plays, my guess is your typical first baseman would let this ball go into the stands. Also, I hope Jeter took notes, this is a play where you go into the stands, not a play where you have 15 feet to peel off and avoid the seats.
