[SI] – But strangest of all: Under the so-called Brady rule, prosecutors are required to disclose to the defense materially exculpatory evidence—that is, evidence favorable to the accused. In this case, when defense lawyers for some of the accused parties received the government’s Brady disclosures, the document contained reference to the man who went by Jeff DeAngelo. Referring to the agent by his true name, the government conceded that the operation’s central figure stood accused of misappropriating investigative funds earmarked for the operation and spending the money on gambling, food and beverages during the probe. Reverse engineering the dates, this alleged misconduct occurred during the July 2017 trip to Las Vegas. Later, “DeAngelo” had not flown to visit his ill mother. The undercover agent had actually been removed from the case due to accusations about his own allegedly illegal activity.

Well, I mentioned this when the FBI investigation started. This is a clusterfuck. Actually, that’s a compliment. It’s a disaster that never should be happening. Remember, the whole premise of this is that the schools are the victims.

Let’s think about this for a second. The schools, which are making millions of dollars, are the victims in this. Not the kids who are being lied to or funneled a certain direction. The schools, where the coaches are taking money to funnel kids to a certain agent, etc. That’s why this was a joke to begin with.

But, how about this Jeff DeAngelo fella. I actually sort of respect the move only because I’m a degenerate. You come into a bunch of money when you’re in Vegas, you go throw it on the tables. Personally, I like to imagine he walked into the high-rollers section and put it all down for one hand of blackjack. Perhaps, he felt lucky and all threw it on 22 in roulette. What would be even better though is he threw down a future bet on Villanova.

Either way, this entire investigation continues to be a complete joke. I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole thing leads to nothing because of the mistakes by FBI agents like DeAngelo, or common sense that there shouldn’t have been an investigation to begin with.

We need to stop looking at this as some sort of FBI investigation and oh, I don’t know, get a commission on college basketball to work on figuring out what amateurism actually should be. Perhaps, we start using common sense and letting these guys profit off of name, likeness and image. Silly me though, just being a blogger – although I’m pretty sure that makes me more qualified than 3/4 of the Rice Commission.
