Pirates Pitcher Nick Burdi Suffers Horrible Arm Injury On The Mound

Stating the obvious, this is very bad. The broadcasters were talking about this perhaps being a cramp or something to that effect, but it came off as something much worse. Pirates right-hander Nick Burdi has already undergone Tommy John surgery, going under the knife in May of 2017. But this was clearly not an elbow injury. He was grabbing at the bicep, which could be anything from a strain, to a muscle tear, to a tendon, to a bone break. We don’t know anything yet, but we’re hoping for the best case scenario.

Coming into tonight, Burdi had punched out 17 batters in 8.1 innings, throwing his fastest fastball at the big league level in his most recent outing on Friday at 99.34 MPH. This was just his thirteenth major league appearance, so we’ve got our fingers crossed that one of the most electric arms in the game right now is back out there as soon as possible.

And if you needed any more reason to root for Burdi in this situation, he’s one of us.
