Getting Thrown in a Bronx Jail and Banished From a Stadium For Life Just For Jumping Seats Seems Like a Bit Much

So this story has been out for a few days with more and more details coming out everyday. As the story goes, the Yankees “super fan” who has gained stardom by showing up to games with his neon shirt this year was at the Yankees-Red Sox game on Thursday night. It rained a ton during the game and a lengthy rain delay ensued. Lots of fans in the expensive area cleared out and when play resumed the “Neon Shirt Guy” snuck down to the Legends area behind home plate where Marlins Man usually sits. It appears he hasn’t had the tickets to the good seats he’s been spotted in this whole time, and instead has been jumping seats to sneak down.

As a non-rich guy myself I’m accustomed to this move. As a kid my dad and I would always try to sneak down to the lower levels of Yankee Stadium and get a better seat than we paid for. I swear my dad had an art for it and we never had any issues. Now we’re not cheap people, but Yankee Stadium tickets are no joke. Plus we knew we could beat the system if we were smart so why not? The Neon Shirt Guy’s issue here is that he got too greedy. When you are jumping seats you can’t go all the way to the front row behind home plate. When you do that you piss off the ushers who know the people personally that pay to sit that close. Marlins Man told his account of the story on a Miami radio show yesterday and in classic Marlins Man fashion rattled off every employee’s name who works the area because he’s there all the time.

I don’t hate the move that this guy was ejected from the game, but being thrown in jail is outrageous. Being banished from the stadium forever is insane. I mean come on guys he didn’t fight somebody. He didn’t push a woman down the stairs. He didn’t start a whole commotion (according to Marlins Man’s account). All he did was hop seats and sit behind home plate. Having to spend a night in a Bronx jail for that is preposterous.

We all jump seats here and there, but you’ve got to be smart about it. I hope Neon Shirt Guy gets to come back to the stadium because obviously he deserves to. I don’t know, am I being too soft on this guy? Should I not care? I just think you should have to do a lot worse to spend 24 hours in a Bronx jail .
