A Top 100 Chess Grandmaster Has Been Caught Looking Up Moves While On The Toilet During Tournament Play

The world of elite chess has been engulfed in a cheating scandal after a picture emerged of a top grandmaster sat on a toilet allegedly using a mobile phone to cheat.

Police are investigating after Igors Rausis, who has represented Latvia, Bangladesh and the Czech Republic, was caught “red-handed”, the game’s governing body Fide said today.

Mr Rausis, aged 58, stunned the chess world by reaching the game’s top echelon at an age most players decline in strength.

What a shitty situation. And I know you guys came here to read about the scandal that has rocked the modern chess world, but we’ll get to that in a second. I cannot let this slide by: who took this photo??

A good rule of thumb to live by is to never peek over the ledge and take a picture of someone on the toilet. In fact, I’m pretty sure this is more than a rule of thumb. I think it’s a bonafide law. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this person is now subject to arrest? I don’t know….I’ll let the proper authorities figure that out.

Anyways, how about this 58 year old chess superstar getting caught looking up potential moves on his phone?? This guy was rated Top 100 in the entire world!! And for those of you that don’t know, chess players usually stop making any progress after the age of thirty. Source:

Russian Grandmaster and chess pundit Andrey Deviatkin said: “I always considered huge progress in chess to be highly unlikely after 30.”

I hate to have hindsight 20/20 vision here, but shouldn’t this have already been a red flag? I mean, this dude is nearly twice that age and he’s had one of the most unprecedented rises in rating ever. Look at how good he’s gotten in the last six years.

The fact that he’s 58 and rising at a rate never before seen should’ve been a little hint, but how about the fact that mid-chess game he keeps going to the bathroom? I bet he has fake documented bladder problems. The perfect crime. But seriously, how did no one ever catch on? If I’m playing a dude….don’t care what age…..and I’m beating him. Then he takes a piss, comes back and completely destroys me. Dude I’m calling 911 immediately. That guy is 100% a cheater. As much as this falls on the shoulders of the guy cheating, it also falls on every single person that’s allowed him to use the bathroom for 5 minutes and come back and beat them. I thought chess players were smart? No street skills I guess.

Shout out to the old man for being able to use a cell phone so effectively though. A very underrated part of the story.
