Knee Jerk Reactions to Week 13: Pats vs. Steelers

Things to consider while wondering how Missy Peregrym congratulated Ben Roethlisberger on the big win:

*No matter what happens the rest of the way, the 2008 Patriots season will always be remembered as "The Year of Matt Cassel at Quarterback." Which is good news for the secondary because the runner up choice would be "The Year of Three Defensive Backs Staring at Each Other After Another Wide Open 3rd Down Conversion".

*For all the things Pilolichick do well, their true genius, like it is with Theo Epstein, comes from knowing when to re-sign one of their veterans and when to cut ties. Look it up. They've never moved on from a guy that went somewhere else and made them regret it. They've all either done nothing (David Patten), done just OK (Deion Branch), or been adequately replaced for much less money (Adam Vinatieri). Until now. Asante Samuel would've been worth every penny.

*The only guy in America this week who got burned worse than Deltha O'Neal was Ronnie Gardocki.

*This is one week where the Gillette crowd gets a free pass from me. As hard as I've been on them, anyone who sat out in those elements and endured that dog's breakfast of a performance without capturing the Minutemen's cache of weapons and taking hostages deserves to be commended. If I had been there, there'd be pieces of Pat Patriot in Bob Kraft's mail tomorrow with a note demanding my money back. I kept hoping Belichick would have the players grab the propane heaters and heated benches and carry them up into the stands.

*Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Matt Light appealed the commissioner's ruling and asked to start his suspension immediately.
