Celtics Blog: Pick Your Poison... You're Fucked Either Way

scal and kg

"I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Another weekend, and another back-to-back, for the Celtics has come and gone with the Celtics looking totally different in two games... while winning both.

Philly got the Jules treatment on Friday night.  It was a domination so brutal, the SVU is still investigating.  Philly was fucked from the start.  The Celtics defense dominated, Ray Allen couldn't miss, Rajon Rondo made his case to make the All Star game, and every starter played less than 31 minutes.

They were set up to carry that effort over to Charlotte... but the 6th back-to-back of the month (they've got no more than 3 per month from now on) was apparently too much.  The C's came out flat, and stayed that way in a game with no discernable flow or feel.  But in typical C's fashion, they found a way to win.  Paul Pierce woke up in the last couple of minutes to carry the C's just far enough.  Tony Allen was huge off the bench, and Kendrick Perkins stepped up with a big double-double... and 3 more blocked shots.

So this weekend has reinforced something we've seen all year long:  You can pick whichever kind of game you want... the Celtics are going to win.  They ran with Golden State, they banged with Detroit, they dispatched a "challenger" in Philly, and they sleep-walked through the back end of back-to-backs... and they've won them all.  Hell... Scal is even getting meaningful minutes and producing.

Last year, we went into December 13-2.  This year, with a more grueling schedule, a lot more rest for the starters, and nowhere near the "clicking on all cylinders" type of play that we can expect later in the season... the Celtics are 16-2.

Maybe when the Bruins are done with their parade... the duck boats can just loop back around and pick up the Celtics for theirs.

To quote Pres...."Has there ever been a team to win back-to-back games? Cue the Duck Boats

Love them or hate them, has there been another city with such dominance in sports across the board in such a few years? With the Pats, Sox, Celts, and now the Bruins making noise, its pretty unbelievable and a great time to live in Boston!

great blog and yes, rondo to the all-star game right now (derrick rose will be in rookie vs. sophs) on that note which team would greg oden play for in rookie vs. sophs?

That KG/Jules Winnfield mash-up looks like Omar from "The Wire".

rearadmiral, Nov 30 2008, 6:30 pm

Everything I've read has put Oden as a rookie.

Knowing the NBA and the way it works to get All-Stars in, your PGs will be Wade and Iverson. Any extra votes go to Calderon (and rightly deserved) for his snub last year.

Rondo is good, but playing with Allen, Garnett, and Pierce will keep him from making it every time.

LongPoleLax1, Nov 30 2008, 11:38 pm

Actually, the starter at PG for the east this year should probably be Devin Harris. He's playing out of his mind. It might be enough to squeeze Rondo out... but I'd still like to see him make it.

B's Blog - Bruins take down reigning champs in swift fashion

s

It's a common sports cliché (though not always accurate---hello 29th Super Bowl) that "to be the best you have to beat the best". Last night, THE story of Boston sports right now, your Boston Bruins, handily dispatched the reigning Stanley Cup champion and prohibitive pre-season favorite Dee-troit Red Wings 4-1 at the increasingly sold-out Fake Garden for the ninth straight "W" in the home barn. The win not only moved the team into a tie for the Wales lead (with two games in hand) with the Rangers; it was also a message to the rest to the rest of league and the doubters/haters. Right now the Bs are in Clarence the Barber from "Coming to America" mode---"Fuck you, fuck you, and fuck you! Who's next?"

Though consistently one of the best teams in the league, Detroit is also probably the least intense of Boston's Original Six rivalries (though it's always a treat when they're in town). But last night's game had a playoff buzz and hockey people thinking "rematch" in June. And the Bruins, after withstanding Detroit's early pressure, made it look easy, frankly. Emerging Calder Trophy candidate Blake Wheeler's textbook 2-on-1, one-timer from a perfect Michael Ryder pass on Boston's first shot 12 minutes into the game opened the scoring as well as put Wheeler #2 in rookie goal scorers with eight. Kessel 13th goal a few minutes later doubled their lead as well as put Kessel alongside the names "Crosby" and "Ovechkin" in a 3rd place tie for the league lead. The Bruins have found themselves that elusive bona fide sniper (maybe two). And Kess just became legal to drink. Chiarelli not dumping this kid last year could turn out to be like not dumping your Apple stock in the early 80s for a couple of Commodore 64s.
