KTNV.com - One man's Halloween will not be too pleasant since he was arrested early Friday morning for DUI. Travis Stone was dressed head to toe in silver paint. The silver man was driving a gold Mercedes near the U.S. 95 and Decatur when police caught him. Apparently Stone was driving under the influence, lost control, and went into the right shoulder.Stone has been charged with DUI with accident and failure to maintain travel lane. God damn the Silver Surfer must be pissed! I mean it’s bad enough that this guy got captured while dressed as him, but the papers can’t even get his name right. It’s the Silver Surfer not Silver Man. Talk about a slap in the face. On the bright side at least this guy did him justice with the mug shot though.
Man Jailed After 2 People Ate From 1 Plate at Buffet
Foxnews - A Texas man was jailed last week after refusing to pay for a second buffet meal after his girlfriend "ate a couple bites from his plate."The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday that Dan Linscomb, 40, of Texas City, Texas, was arrested Oct. 21 after refusing to pay for the second $7 meal at an Iron Skillet restaurant in northwest Atlanta. According to a police report, Linscomb said "there were no signs in the restaurant that said someone could not have some food off your plate," the paper said. Linscomb was jailed on a charge of theft of services, but was released two days later after he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, the paper said.
Fucking Texans. No respect for authority. Honestly what is Dan Liscomb trying to prove here? Everybody knows the rules of an all you can eat buffet are hard and fast. No fucking sharing! Not one bite, not a couple bites, not an entire meal. It’s pretty black and white. So spare me the song and dance about how there were no signs that said he couldn’t share. You don’t see any signs that you can’t murder people either do you? Now I know some people probably are thinking spending two days in jail is too harsh a punishment for this crime, but I say it’s not harsh enough. People always ask me how I was able to create the Barstool Sports empire or why I think people like the blog so much. And outside of being flat out lucky, I think my biggest attribute is that I know what funny is. I may not be funny myself, but I know it when I see it. Now having said that I'm totally confused on this one.. Because I really didn't think this picture was that good, but at the same time here I am blogging about it. I'm curious what the Stoolies think. Is this picture blog worthy?

Bills Fans Arrested For Having Sex in the Stadium Ladies Room
Orchard Park, NY-- The call came out early in the third quarter Sunday to investigate numerous complaints of a commotion in a ladies’ restroom across from Section 336 in Ralph Wilson Stadium. It didn’t take security officers long to figure out the cause of what police later called a “public disturbance” in the restroom. A woman, law enforcement officials said Monday, was having sex with her boyfriend in a bathroom stall. The couple was arrested [at] Sunday’s Bills-Jets game. In November 1998, a couple was charged with public lewdness after being caught having sex in the upper-level stands during a Bills game.
You'd think that since the Patriots and Buffalo have been division rivals since the Late Cretaceous Period that I'd hate Bills fans with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns, but not so. There's a lot to admire about those lovable little almost-Canadian bastards. They root for a team that's synonymous with not being able to win the Big One. They support an owner who bitches about not having enough money while he names a stadium after himself. They cheered for Willis McGahee only to have him turn around and demand a trade because the women of Buffalo were too ugly for his liking. It's tough life up there. I imagine it's cold enough just sitting in the upper deck at The Ralph in Novemeber, never mind getting your swerve on. And as far as bathroom sex is concerned, I don't even like to pee in the men's rooms at Gillette. Any guy who's willing to go into one of those filth-laden petri dish bathroom stalls and put it to his ugly-ass Adirondack girlfriend is a tougher man than I.

Do the Rockets really expect to win a title with Georghe Muresan playing center? Holy crap was Yao Ming awful last night. Perk absolutely dominated him. And did you see that play in the 3rd quarter when Yao went up for a dunk and got rejected by...the rim? That happens when you're 6-5, not 7-5.
The Celtics followed up Saturday night's shit-stain of an effort in Indiana with a we're-still-the-team-to-beat victory over the Rockets in Houston. And they did so with average efforts from KG and PP. Ray Allen was the man, dropping 29 on the defenseless Tracy McGrady. And how about Donny Marshall just blasting T-Choke on every possession for his lack of effort on defense? A big thank you to Rockets coach Rick Adelman for his failure to pull McGrady off Allen until it was too late.
Back to Perk, who was a monster. His statline - 15 pts, 7 reb and 4 blks - doesn't do his effort justice. He crammed a Yao turnaround jumper right back in his face and had this nasty swat on Ron Artest.
Referee Scott Foster (Tim Donaghy's good buddy) might as well have worn a Rockets jersey. He blew several calls including a McGrady acting job on a 3-point shot late in the fourth which could have hurt the C's had McGag not missed one of the freebies. On to OKC to play with the Thunder.

Varitek Wants Four Years at $52 Million? Is He Joking?
The Herald: If the Red Sox [ team stats] were entertaining thoughts that their efforts to re-sign free agent catcher Jason Varitek [ stats] were going to be easy, they learned otherwise yesterday. Agent Scott Boras told reporters that New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada’s four-year, $52.4 million deal, which was agreed to last offseason, will serve as a benchmark for any team looking to land Varitek. “It’s probably representative, age-wise,” Boras said, “and it’s also representative of what a player on a winning team (is worth). You’re not going to have many catchers who have the performance levels and a 60 percent winning percentage on a franchise and have won two world championships and caught four no-hitters. The idea of it is that there just aren’t many in the marketplace that can lead a club like Jason Varitek and that’s going to be his value.”
When Theo Epstein first heard Varitek was looking for a four year deal, he had to have thought it was a joke. I'll bet he even wrote it down in his diary: "Scott Boras had a very funny joke today" and laughed about it later that night. But they're serious? Really? Look, no one has had his lips more firmly air-locked on 'Tek's buttocks than I have. I'm on record as agreeing with every point Boras makes about the championships and the four no-hitters, none of which would've happened if the Sox had just some random Molina brother behind the plate. And I've said that even while Varitek's been getting annihilated for being a confirmed .220 hitter. But around Opening Day of next year he turns 37. Boras can't honestly think Theo is interested in being committed to a 41 year old catcher for any kind of money, much less $13 mil a year. I love how people get all intimidated by Boras like "Oooh, he's such a tough negotiator. He's not going to go for the hometown discount. The Sox will have to meet his demands, oooh..." Why? The best deal Boras can get is the best deal that's out there. Does anyone honestly think there's a team out there willing to cough up that kind of a deal for a guy who hits like he's swinging a souvenier novelty bat? If so, then more power to him. Thanks for everything Jason. But I say the Sox will the only team making a bid, they'll offer two years maximum, and if that's not good enough than Varitek and Boras can both piss up a rope. Heidi Watney will be sad about it, but there'll always be other players to seduce.

As much as Tek loves the Red Sox and Boston, he loved half his money that just walked out the door with his ex-wife even more.
He'll play for Al Quaeda at this point if they paid him the most money and as a man I can't begrudge him one bit. If I lost half my money because I wanted to upgrade from my frumpy housewife to Heidi Watney I'd be pissed too and try to recoup every last penny I could.
Tek may not get that deal, but let's face it, he's coming back here. He's definitely coming back.
Posada was coming off a .338 20 hr and 90 rbi season, varitek is coming of a .220 13 hr 43rbi season, look what happned to posada this year he broke down and the yanks are stuck with him, i want tek back but not at that $ and those years, he has 2 good years at the most left in him, i wont say he has no chance of getting that money, but the team that does sign him for that $ and years needs to re-evaluate their thinking in life, good luck tek, hopefully this is just a boras ploy to drive up the price but i dont see it happening

God I hope he doesn't come back. He has to be the most overrated professional athlete I've ever seen. Yes, some pitchers like throwing to him, but how many times did you see Paplebon shake him off this year. He's supposed to be great w/young pitchers, but did he help Bucholtz this year? What about lester his rookie year? How's Delcarmon coming?
He had a great run in boston, and I have no doubt he's a smart catcher, but its an overrated talent. A pitcher throws what he wants to throw (when its not called from the dugout)...I even saw Masterson, a rookie, shake him off in the playoffs.
He cannot hit, he cannot throw, and while its nice to have a smart catcher, you can ask ANYONE on the Sox staff and I'd imagine they'd rather have a guy behind the plate who could actually drive in a run once in while over someone they don't have to shake off. You think in Game 7 vs. the Rays Lester was thinking "I know 'Tek can't hit, and there's no way we're scoring a run here with him at the plate, but damn is he smart". My guess is, he was thinking "goddamn, I wish we had a catcher who could hit".
I would pay him whatever he wants on the condition that he stops batting lefty. It's more embarrassing than being the kid whose parents chaperone his school dance.
In neither circumstance does the guy ever make it to second, and very rarely squeaks out a single.

Tek was a good player in his day. That said.. Why are people so enamoured with a .220 hitter who hits into double plays, pops out, and routinely leaves players on base that are in scoring position? If the boy wonder could follow up trading Manny by bringing Captiain Intangibles in any way shape or form he should recieve bonus checks from the Yanks and Rays. People outside of baseball underestimate how valuable Tek is to a pitching staff. When a pitcher shakes off a sign, a lot of time it is orchestrated to keep hitter's from guessing right. I'd bet that 95% of the time a pitcher shakes of Tek, its because he gave them the shake off sign. I was a minor league catcher, this is how things work.
It's also not about a pitcher just liking to throw to him, its about the Tek taking the guessing out of pitching. He knows hitters inside and out so a pitcher can throw with confidence knowing that he has an educated reason as to why he should throw the specific pitch.
He will be back with the Sox. I'd guess 2 years between $9mil and $10mil with a club option for a 3rd year.

Kottaras, once considered a top prospect in the San Diego Padres system before the Red Sox acquired him in exchange for baseball’s version of Charles Barkley, repeated AAA in 2008 and displayed a mild improvement. He’s relatively decent with the bat, flashing some power, taking walks, and hitting consistently against both righties and lefties. However, the knock on George has always been defense related. He has difficulty throwing out runners (even more so than Jason Varitek), but reportedly has improved in other areas.
Bottom line is either of these guys will hit .220 or better.

now they have computers that keep all kinds of stats on opposing hitters and where to pitch them in certain situations. Tito is more than capable of getting on the f-ing computer and calling the game from the dugout if he wants. Other MLB managers do the same thing. They need someone that can produce. I got a buddy that is kicking around in the minors right now, he has been as high as AAA and a career .270 hitter, puts the ball in play, plays a good defense, maybe they will give him a shot.

Where to begin...first off, the idea that pitchers intentionally shake off a catcher to throw the hitter off-track just isn't true. The only time this would make any sense is if there was a guy on 2nd base. The hitter can't see your signs, so say its 3-0 and you obviously want to throw a fastball. a catcher wouldn't throw down 2 fingers (for a curveball) hoping the pitcher shook him off. what if he didn't? like i said, thats just not true. I pitched in the minors, and for a divison 1 college program, and never once did I run across a catcher that did this.
Second of all, if he knows hitters so well, why did the sox only have the 9th best ERA in the league? 8th best opp on-base %? if catchers impact the pitching staff that much, then you're saying there are 7/8 other catchers this year that knew the hitters better than Varitek? If he knew the Rays hitters so well, why did they crush the sox pitchers in the ALCS?
I'd say that most people outside of baseball in fact OVERestimate Variteks impact on the Sox pitching staff.

For one, obviously the hitter cannot see the signs, but hitters have scouting reports on pitchers. They know tedencies. So for instance if they hitter knows that Josh Beckett will typically throw a 1-1 breaking ball, if he shakes off the catcher once, maybe twice, then it is far more difficult to determine what pitch is coming. There are signs for a shakeoff, it could be a finger wiggle, the way the catcher places his glove, a touch of the mask before a signal is given. IT IS A DESIGNED SHAKE OFF! I've played D-1 Baseball, in the Cape League, and Minor League ball. It's happend at every level. It is a very very common practice. If you didn't have a catcher that did this, well frankly you didn't have a very smart catcher.
For the ERA argument, you had Dice-K and Lester who had the best years of their short careers. Beckett was injured and couldn't execute. As a catcher you can game plan, but you cant throw the pitches for them. Buccholtz couldn't execute, he missed location after location. The Rays shelled the Sox because you had Wakefield pitching, Beckett throwing hurt, and a tired Lester who pitched far more innings than he's ever pitched.
Look at the sample size over the past few years and how Tek handled his staff. He makes good, HEALTHY, pitchers great.
Look, i'm not going to get in a pissing match with you. if you played d1, cape, minors, congrats. My main point was, you can't have a guy hitting .220 in a ML lineup for 130 games a year, regardless of what he brings defensively. you can carry a .250 guy, or at least someone with a decent OBP, and .313 isn't decent. MAYBE you could justify it if he was cheap, but to pay him 10million/year is insane. its not worth the maybe .25 runs a game you may gain from it. The guy had a nice run here, if he wants to signe for 4mil/year and mentor a younger guy, great. if he can get a 10mil/year contract from someone, thats fine for me too. I'm sure the sox will survive without him.
