Rear Admiral's Bruins Blog

m

The Bs continued their no-'expert'-saw-it-coming march toward some hometown hockey come Marathon Monday with their huge, no quit, come from behind 5-4 SO victory over a fragile, impending fire sale Panthers squad last night in sunny F-L-A, placing them 6th in the Wales. Down 4-2 going into the third, a virtual death knell for a team that scores about as often as the average comment poster, the Bs were able to overcome a couple of "Have you seen my baseball?" moments by the D to tie the game. Big Z's 7th PPG (12th overall) got them within one and the "European Buys" line of Big Looch (2nd in rookies with 125 hits), David Krejci (who is more overdue than the Pats are to cover...what? Too soon?), and Phil "Chiarelli better not fucking trade me, I'm only fucking 20" Kessel combined to knot the game and the team smelled blood. Sturmie's lone goal of the shootout proved the difference as Alex Auld, replacing a rare off-night Tank Thomas after the 2nd, stonewalled the three Panthers he faced. The win gives the team 7 out of 8 points on this current road trip which concludes tomorrow night at the Bs visit Mons Ven...I mean the dangerous yet bottom-dwelling Tampa Bay Lightning. More importantly, it gives long-suffering fans hope that Tom Petty isn't the only reason they're in the (fake) Garden when it's finally nice outside.

Happy 40th Birthday, Jeri Ryan

Today Jeri Ryan turns 40, which officially removes her from "Hot Older Chick" status and graduates her to the top of the "Cougar" class. Good for her, she's held up well and she deserves it. Jeri still holds the world record for Nerd Ejaculations Produced, from her role as Seven of Nine in "Star Trek: Voyager." Her silver cat suit not only caused the sexual awakening of a generation of Magic: The Gathering players and saved the Trek franchise, it gave us all a reason to look forward to a future where we might possibly get assimilated by an evil alien collective.

After Trek of course, the FCC mandated that Jeri play the MILF/ aging seductress on at least one TV show at all times, from "Boston Public" to "The OC" to "Boston Legal" to "Shark," she's never disappointed. And she may very well have done nothing less than change the course of US history. She used to be married to a popular US Senator from Illinois. Weeks before he was to be re-elected (he was kicking ass in the polls and was a shoe-in to win) their divorce records, which had been sealed, were released to the world. And in them, Jeri had told the judge that her husband used to take her to sex clubs and tried several times to get her to swap with other couples and have sex with him in public. Sen. Ryan pulled out of the race in disgrace and his opponent breezed into office. And the opponent's name? Barack Obama.

Happy Birthday, Seven of Nine; you'll always be Nine out of Ten to me. Click here to see much more of her...

Local Smokeshow of the Day (Natalie)

Today is a milestone day in the short history of the Smokeshow of the Day feature.  We have our first ever sister combination in the history of the Stool.    Natalie’s sister Monica already was a Smokeshow of the Day a couple weeks ago.   These chicks are like the Stastny brothers.    I think this is what people in the smut business call “good genes”

Feel free to send us smokeshow nominations.  It would kind of help to keep this thing going.    And don’t just send us the girl’s name either.  Tell them that it is their civic responsibility to get involved.  PS – BC girls who have been nominated are 0-3 in turning us down.  Pretty much the only girls who have said no are from the Heights.    Somebody needs to step up and save their reputation. Send nominations to randomthoughts@barstoolsports.com

Question of the Day: Did Al Michaels Bet On the Miracle On Ice?

Now on principle I’m posting the last minute and a half of the Miracle On Ice because as everybody knows today is the 28th anniversary.  But the more important question is not how a bunch of college dudes kicked the crap out of the Soviet Union, but what type of bet did Al Michaels hit on that game?  I mean clearly he sounds excited at the end with the whole “do you believe in miracles”, but maybe Michaels wasn't necessarily talking about the game, maybe he was talking about hitting the under or something?

My prediction was that he had USA hockey in part of a 3-team Olympic teaser that day with the Swiss curling team and the East German bobsledders.  What does that pay, 8-1?  That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why he’s that excited at the end of the game.  Nobody gets that fired up if they don't have at least a little something riding on the outcome, especially a known degenerate like Michaels.

Anyway as a side note, how on fire have I been with my Youtubes the last 2 days?  Today with the Miracle on Ice, yesterday with the Jamel Thomas 3.  It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Introducing 97% of the Internet Cowboys Who Make Comments on the Barstool Blog

Every time I get worked up about what some idiot wrote in the comment section of our blog I got to remind myself that this is who is on the other end. Unless I'm giving this kid too much credit. Unfortunately I'm dead serious.

Abigail Clancy Is Bringing It In a Very Ho Baggish Type Of Way!

a

a

As a reminder Abigail Clancy is some British chick who fucks soccer players or something like that. Anyway this is what she wore to an event called the Brit Awards. (I hear that's huge in Britian) Anyway, it looks like I can cross "Abigail" off the list of potential names that I could name my daughter if I ever have one. Because Abigail Clancy just slutted that name up forever in my mind.

PS - Just in case you want to see more Abigail, here is UB"s Wake Up with Abigail Clancy which I'm pretty sure is the best collection of Abigail photos on the web. I love how people are just starting to hear about this chick in the United States and UB did a wake up with her back in like 1984.

Beverly Man Arrested For Threatening To Kill RMV Workers

Local man arrested after allegedly threatening RMV employees

BEVERLY, Mass. -- A local man is accused of allegedly threatening to kill people at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.  Gary Woodbury, 52, allegedly told the employees at the RMV in Beverly that he would shoot them after he was denied a state issued ID Wednesday.  Woodbury says that he never threatened to shoot them and that this all a big misunderstanding. Woodbury also says that he does not own a gun nor has he ever applied for one.  "I told them their employer should line them all up and teach them how to do their job instead of shooting people out the door," Woodbury said. Woodbury was arrested and is facing two counts of threatening to commit murder

Does it really matter what Woodbury said?   If people got arrested every time they threatened to kill an RMV employee the entire state of MA would be in jail.   I mean I’d say I make death threats at least 40% of the time I go in there.    In fact I thought it was just understood that RMV employees don’t even start listening to you until you threaten to mutilate them.  That’s the only way to get their attention.   Saying I’m going to shoot you is the equivalent of saying “hello my name is Dave” to people who work at the Registry.   I thought everybody knew this.

Bianca de la Garza Vs. David Wade...Who Ya Got?

b

Bostonherald.com - Big on-air shakeups are under way at two Boston TV stations - moves that have brought mixed emotions. WCVB-TV (Ch. 5) has switched up the anchor desk - morning through night. Former WFXT-TV (Ch. 25) weekend anchor and reporter Bianca de la Garza is Channel 5’s new early morning co-anchor. She’ll go up against her husband, David Wade, who delivers the morning news at WBZ. But a little competition is nothing new for this couple. The pair met while working as reporters for competing TV stations in Albany, N.Y. “We’ve done that before. He’s a big boy,” said de la Garza, who has been freelancing for Channel 5 since July. “For the first time in 10 years of us being together, we’ll have time off together with our daughter.”

I absolutely refuse to believe that there isn’t going to be some serious hate fucking going on at Wade/de la Garza household.    I mean Bianca already basically pissed in her husband’s eyeball with that “He’s a big boy” line.   That’s obviously code for I’m going to kick his ass all over the place and there ain’t a god damn thing he can do about it.   And you know what?  She’s right.  How the hell can David Wade compete with a smokeshow like Bianca de la Garza?  I give it two years before David Wade throws in the towel on this relationship.   There is just no way a man can be a man when his wife is dominating him in the workforce like this.   I mean if the First Lady was the Editor of Hustler or something I wouldn’t even be able to show my face in public. Or Spare Change for that matter.

UMass Beats URI and Qualifies For Big Dance

Get your dancing/rioting shoes ready UMass. Last night's huge victory at URI should punch the Minuteman's ticket to the NCAA Tourney. And all Umass Alum and students are cordially invited to our 4th annual March Madness Party at the Place on Friday March 21st. At least we'll have one local team to root for.

— elpresidente, 9:45 am | permalink | 31 comments

does lou roe still play for the team?

ramblin man, Feb 22 2008, 9:51 am

EP, entirely unrelated but John Tomasshole is at it again...
Yesterday he posted a rumor that Pepper Johnson might be leaving the Pats to join Al Groh as D-Coordinator at UV.
Now today he reports that the position was filled a week ago.

Maybe we should innundate his inbox with bogus rumors just to see how much he will run with without checking anything.

The guy is just a media whore of the highest level.
I think Perez Hilton has more journalistic credibility than John "Popper" Thomase

j44thor, Feb 22 2008, 9:53 am

As probably the biggest UMass basketball fan on this site, I am sad to say that this win, in no way, punches a ticket to the NCAA tourney for us. With 9 loses, including Fordham, IUPUI, and Northern Iowa, UMass still needs to win out AND win some games in the A-10 tourney. Granted our last 3 games are against the Bonnies, Lasalle, and GW, but all of them are still must wins.

I am a senior and have yet to see UMass win an A-10 tournament game. Last year they had a first round bye and lost in the second round to a pitiful St. Louis team, a loss that relegated UMass to the NIT.

As much as I would love to see this team in the Dance, I am not getting my hopes up for an at large bid until after the A-10 tourney. I do think its great that all the analysts have been jizzing all over the A-10 this year, leading to some major props and great awareness. I think they want to put three teams in. Xavier is a lock, then there is URI, St. Joe's, and UMass. At least one team isnt gonna make it and the A-10 tourney will decide who.

ard1285, Feb 22 2008, 9:54 am

good ol' southwest.

I miss that place.

vmanv, Feb 22 2008, 9:56 am

ard, a senior and your posting on a Friday morning b/f noon? God bless you buddy, when I was at the Zoo Friday mornings were there to wake up and take a piss then go back to bed until 3pm....I do have a feeling you are hungover though

Ry guy, Feb 22 2008, 10:01 am

Thanks for the mush prez

sam malone, Feb 22 2008, 10:01 am

6-6 in the A10 hardly gets them into the dance.

MikeHoncho, Feb 22 2008, 10:02 am

j44thor- you got to stop reading that douche's column.

Sully9, Feb 22 2008, 10:02 am

I hate to say it, but that is just pathetic. i could see celebrating like that if you won the tourney, but just for possibly making the tourney?

Pathetic.

Are winters really that bleak?

Did Mass. ban fucking or something?

johnb1222, Feb 22 2008, 10:02 am

if it wasn't for frank black, i'd like nothing about u-mass.

despite that, congratulations, hopefully this banner season won't be erased from history like 1996.

TheGorch, Feb 22 2008, 10:03 am

Agree with you completely ard. Frustrating when they win tough games (@ Syracuse, @Boston College, @Dayton, @Rhode Island) but lose the should-win games (v.Fordam, IUPUI, Northern Iowa), not to mention losing to St. Joseph's twice. I'm a huge UMASS fan as well, but they have to probably make it at least to the A-10 finals -- given they win out in these last 3 regular season games -- to get into the NCAAs.

Stallone, Frank, Feb 22 2008, 10:05 am

manramhof will probably say that UMass basketball is ranked top 5 in the country.

Sully9, Feb 22 2008, 10:07 am

Johnb did you notice that video was from 06?

sam malone, Feb 22 2008, 10:07 am

Uh,

Ooops?

I claim caffeine deficiency.

johnb1222, Feb 22 2008, 10:09 am

They DO NOT have to make it to the A-10 finals to make the tourney. Their RPI is 31 right now, with an SOS of 24.

sam malone, Feb 22 2008, 10:09 am

— ard1285, Feb 22 2008, 9:54 am

I'd argue on you being the biggest fan, but your assessment is right. We need to win the next 4 (which should be easy) and then make it atleast to the Semis, and not get blown out there. Let's hope for some St Joes and URI losses in the A10 as well.

Retahded, Feb 22 2008, 10:10 am

St. Joes is obv going,,,, Xavier is a lock,,,

"but lose the should-win games (v.Fordam, IUPUI, Northern Iowa), not to mention losing to St. Joseph's twice."

Can UMass fans even spell Saint Joseph's,, prob not,,, smart kids and a solid hoops team = equals a great tourney run ,,,, eat one

Sinker, Feb 22 2008, 10:12 am

— johnb1222, Feb 22 2008, 10:02 am

Wrong video or not, that's still a fuckin funny line.

Oldstoolie, Feb 22 2008, 10:19 am

I apologize, I was linking up the text with the video and didn't pay attention to the opening of the video. I thought the video was recent. I have a valid excuse though, I am an idiot.

Photo of Roger at Canseco's party discovered.

That should divert their attention, yea, that's the ticket.

johnb1222, Feb 22 2008, 10:34 am

Hey Ard,

Cheer up. I don't think Umass won a single road game while I was there 82-86. But the cage rocked every night they played.

SteveO, Feb 22 2008, 10:58 am

URI really choked hard the past two games. Both were winnable and they have put themselves in a deep hole, needing help from other teams. Fortunately the true mid-majors (is the A10 a mid?) aren't as strong as they were two years ago and they will not be stealing as many at larges. Unfortunately, URI has a game against St Joes left and if last night was any indication, they seem completely unable to close out tight games.

Xavier is lock, I think St Joes will get in and the last spot will come down to UMass or URI depending on their placement in the A10 tourney. I just don't see both getting in unless they square off in the finals (unlikely)

— MikeHoncho, Feb 22 2008, 10:02 am

Some quality non-conference wins should help - Houston, Syracuse (on road), BC (on road - ok BC kinda sucks). The home loss to Fordham is a glaring blemish on the resume though...

SamBgood, Feb 22 2008, 11:08 am

Why are people all over St. Joes jock? They have 0 quality OOC wins and just lost to La Salle and have lost 3 of 4. Beating Umass twice are their only top 50 rpi wins

sam malone, Feb 22 2008, 11:15 am

Sam Malone, good point. I didn't realize how low their RPI is. The thing for them is their remaining games. They get URI Temple, Xavier and Dayton. Even if they win 2 of those, that will be a big boost for them.

Syracuse and BC are both terrible this year. The committee won't look at either of those wins as being impressive.

MikeHoncho, Feb 22 2008, 11:31 am

best zoo story ... dated chick who went to zoo...up one weekend...we're asleep in top bunk....her nj whore roomie comes in at 2am with some dude she meet.....i'm one eye open from above....he bangs her over her desk without even removing much clothes on both....guy shoots it in her....then was like 'see ya'....next morn..i tell gf what happened....she asks nj roomie..'what time did you get in...we didn't hear you come home'....chick goes 'well i was tired..got home at midnight and went right to bed' lol...

— MikeHoncho, Feb 22 2008, 11:31 am

I guess we'll have to see how Syracuse ends up down the stretch (they still got ND, Pitt, and Marquette left) before we can assess whether it was a quality win or not. As of now, I still think a road win at Syracuse will help.

SamBgood, Feb 22 2008, 12:07 pm

So when is there going to actually going to be a riot... This was weak..... I've seen more destruction at a Phish concert then I see in this video....

Whats really funny about this video is that you had to use repeated pictures like 3 times in the video....

deadheadhoodie, Feb 22 2008, 12:27 pm

If UMass wins its last 4 games, which are all very winnable, then that should get them a first round bye in the A-10 Tourney. If they then win at least 1 game in the tourney, then they are in the dance.

TKQuann, Feb 22 2008, 12:59 pm

Given the lack of respect (deservedly so) that the A-10 gets every year, theres not a chance UMass gets in without winning 4-5 more games. That only gives them a chance.

In other words, Umass can't hold Xaviers jock.

The Professional Scrotum, Feb 22 2008, 2:30 pm

TKQuann-

The road game vs Richmond could pose a problem, they have been playing very well of late. Bottom line is this, they have 5 W's over RPI Top 50. However, No HUGE W's.

No A10 team has ever been omitted with 20 W's, and a RPI under 40
