Celtics Blog: Happy Birthday Brandi

So the lovely Brandi Garnett celebrated a birthday yesterday. What did her husband do for her? He pulled a Celtics victory over the Timberwolves out of his ass... after probably scaring her (and all of us) by briefly leaving with some kind of abdominal strain. Actually, he probably bought her something that we all couldn't afford even if we all pooled our money together...like Cape Cod. But I'll take the win we didn't earn.
Kendrick Perkins did work again. 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting... which was a lot better than Al Jefferson's 15 points on 6-14 shooting. And the thing is... Al Jefferson was trying to score. Perk was just in the right place in the right time (Exhibit A: The game winning putback after Ray Allen missed a lay up). The rest of the Celtics, however, fucking sucked again until the last two minutes of the game. Part of the reason: No James Posey. He missed his third straight game last night, which means the C's had no defensive spark off the bench. It shows two things: Danny Ainge made a great signing when he brought posey in... and the C's rely on him too much when the rest of the guys aren't digging in on D.
I think the one thing we learned last night... is that trading away those guys was obviously the right move. Gerald Green is never going to be what people thought he was. Ryan Gomes will be a nice player, but a complimentary player at best. And Al Jefferson will never come close to giving what KG gives on the court. He'll be a great power forward... and maybe even a Hall of Famer someday... but he'll do it as a #2 option. We saw it last night... when Al could never really get it going... and KG managed to strip a point guard with the game on the line... and subsequently celebrate with such intensity that I thought for a second we'd won a playoff game.
