DM – When your brother’s the youngest billionaire of all time, you perhaps have the liberty to explore your creative side and let your hair down. Which is what appears to have happened to Randi Zuckerberg, the 30-year-old sister to Facebook founder Mark, who is now traipsing around the bars of Silicon Valley belting out hits with her band FeedBomb. However, according to those who have witnessed the live performance, the word ‘bomb’ in the title might be the best way to describe the band – for her rendition of ‘Fund Me Maybe’ – a pastiche of Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ – has been described as ‘off-key and a little painful’. FeedBomb describes itself as ‘a cover band consisting of current and former Facebook employees playing the biggest hits for you to sing-along and dance to.’ Their influences include Bon Jovi, Green Day, Guns ‘N Roses, Jet, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and No Doubt.
It’s hard to even be mad at Randi Zuckerberg here — her brother is a billionaire. Unless she idiotically burned that bridge some years ago she will never even have to dream of working another day in her life. Might as well do what you love: singing Weird Al-like spoof covers for Silicon Valley tech nerds. When money’s no longer a factor all you gotta do is follow your heart.
I’m an only child, so I can’t say what I’d do if a sibling became a millionaire, but if one of my close family members walked into several billion I’d stop blogging immediately. Maybe just start the “maurice 24K Gold Super Rich Tumblr Of Diamonds” and only put up one post a day of me juggling white tiger cubs or filling a Super Soaker with champagne. I’d also probably fly around the country with Mike Tyson and Shaq and have them alternate haymaker some of the more dickish Stoolie commenters Jay & Silent Bob style. It’d be glorious. A hell of a lot better than some bullshit technology cover band.
