Virginia School Charging Parents With Misdemeanor Because Their Kids Were Late For School

Fox – WATERFORD, Va. – Sophie, Daisey and Tucker Denicore are all-American kids living the American dream. Except for the fact their parents have been charged with a crime: for not getting the kids to school on time. “I think it’s using a sledgehammer to kill a fly,” says the children’s father, Mark Denicore. He is a lawyer who works in Washington D.C. He leaves the family home in Waterford, Va., northwest of Leesburg, before dawn. The children’s mother, Amy Denicore, is responsible for getting the kids to school at Waterford Elementary, about a mile down the road. “I understand their concern,” Mark says. “They’re basically running a train and they want all the kids in the train station before the train leaves. So I understand it. It’s a legitimate concern and we’re always trying to address those issues and try to make sure that we’re there on time and we try to teach our kids being prompt is important. But, we’re imperfect parents, my wife’s imperfect, I’m imperfect and my kids are imperfect.” They have been late to school 30 times this year.

So maybe they were late 30 times, but I still don’t really get this, Virginia. The parents did everything you wanted. They didn’t abort the kids like you told them they shouldn’t, they’ve kept them alive and eating human food, and now you’re gonna arrest these people because the kids are coming to school late? You can’t have it both ways. Can’t force parents to have kids and love them, too. Raising these kids, financially providing for them, keeping them from the grave, AND making sure they get to school on time? The whole thing just sounds like some crazy Japanese game show where no one wins in the end. What’s the point?

You can’t blame the parents for not caring about the children or their future — it’s not their job. Are the kids drinking poison? Are they shooting other kids? Are they selling drugs or going by Street Names? No? Then get off these people’s backs. I thought this was America.

They live a mile down the road from school and they are late? Whr mother is a lazy slob who is only looking out for herself. If she can't get her kids to school a mile away, that's on her.

Horseshit! Get the kids to school on time , its called being a responsible parent. Maybe the dad will have to leave a little later to work to help get all three to school on time. 30 times late is absurd. Tell this fuckin pig to get her sweatpants on and get the kids to school.

This is no doubt an unconstitutional law. Delinquency is a status crime, and can only be applied to juveniles, not the parents. No doubt this will be appealled and at some point the law will be tossed out. Doesn't surprise me this happened in Virginia though, I got pulled over for doing 11 miles over the speed limit there and was charged with criminal misdemeanor driving to endanger.
