DM – Adidas has sparked outrage and been accused of ‘promoting slavery’ by creating a new pair of trainers which have bright orange ‘shackles’ that fit around the wearer’s ankles. The clothing giant is under fire for its August scheduled release of the JS Roundhouse Mids, which many have compared to the devices worn by black slaves in 19th Century America. The seemingly innocent promotional material, uploaded to Facebook earlier this month, asks: ‘Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?’
There obviously aren’t any black decision makers working at Adidas. If there were, he or she would have said the nay-no to these Air Slavery jawns the company is intending to sell. Shackled chains, Adidas? You’ve gotta be smarter than that. Oh, but there were a lot of slaves in history — black people don’t solely hold the right to slavery. True, but not in America. In America whenever someone says “slave”, they’re not thinking about some Medieval Arab guy. They’re thinking negro with shakles. AND you had the nerve to make them ugly? AND they’re purple and gold? Adidas if there was an African American state in the Union our colors would be purple and gold. This is a disgrace. Slavery shackle basketball sneakers. I hope everybody gets fired.
