The Jeff Lurie ‘We Finally Fired Andy’ Press Conference: More Honest Than Expected

“We lost some of the exact nature of the method that created the success: discipline, strategic thinking, and doing what’s right.”

To me, that pretty much sums it up. While he doesn’t give you a whole lot of specifics, some of the phrasings Lurie used framed his view of Reid entirely. Andy got desperate. McNabb’s decline coupled with only having 1 1/2 years of quality Vick led to Big Red making short-term decisions that ended up hurting the team. It was said by multiple players today:

Nnamdi, Cullen Jenkins, Vince Young, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and others were either mistakes or didn’t play with enough effort and focus to coincide with the large numbers on their checks.

Lurie also spoke about the next coach, not rushing into his decision, and what characteristics (innovation, comfortable in his own skin, ability to adapt) he’ll be looking for in Reid’s successor. That’s you, Chip Kelly and/or Mike McCoy.

Other notes:

“Best talent evaluation in the building was Howie Roseman.” Lurie also went on to say that the 2012 draft was the first one where he really felt Howie had the keys. Just to review:

5 hits, 2 late-round misses, and 2 don’t-know-yet’s ain’t bad. Like I’ve been saying, if and when the Eagles make a comeback, Howie Roseman will be the dude responsible.

merrill reese calling nnamdi ASSomugha all game made listening to it bearable. but roseman is a horrible GM. he's just a jew that's good with money. he's the reason we got babin who si the worst team player in the entire league. i'd take four TO's before signing him. either way, next year will be our year. washington had a 2008-09 philly type of year. almost to a 't'. not complaining about it, well deserved.

To say that this draft has had 5 "hits" is beyond premature. Outside of Fletcher Cox, none of those guys have proven themselves yet. Bryce may never get over his fumbling problem, Foles may never get better than he is right now, Kendricks is promising but has done nothing to establish himself as a future star. Unbelievable that people are basically implying Howie was the guy begging them to draft Earl Thomas (and every other guy the Eagles should have drafted.)
