Sports Rule Swap: What Rule Would You Like To See In A Different Sport?

A couple nights ago while watching the Flyers dominate the Caps I had an epiphany. Completely blew my brains. Then I forgot what I was thinking about because I got distracted by a text. But then I started watching the game again and thought, “Hey, what if you could take a rule from one sport and use it in another?” Like if Major League Baseball now had a traditional salary cap, or if the NBA adopted challenge flags for fouls, or–OR my favorite idea:

NFL penalties include putting a player in the box.

Imagine for a second an NFL where instead of getting the yardage for a defensive pass interference, the defense actually lost that player for a down. Or two. Or whatever I don’t know I haven’t thought this idea all the way though yet. I just know the concept of an offense getting a crack at a 10 or 9-man defense would be fun as hell to watch.

Maybe you only get put in the box for blows to the head. “Blow to the head of a defenseless player, number 43 of the defense, 15 yards and FOUR PLAYS IN THE BOX.” The crowd would go nuts. Then the offense would get four downs against the Steelers with no Polamalu. Maybe the same rules apply for an offensive lineman caught holding or tripping — in the box. It would mean higher scoring, and after the season if it sucked the league could always tweak how many yards are added to the penalty box plays to even things out. Brilliant idea if you ask me.

A Penalty box in football is brilliant. Lose a player for 4 plays and a 15 yard penalty for a hit to the head. Perfect rule. However,you can't make D play with 10 guys. They should get to substitute.

Bullpen Catchers should be the equivalent to enforcers in hockey. Shit goes down and instead of the pitcher throwing his glove at someone he plunked play Hells Bells over the PA and call in the enforcers. They meet in the infield and duke it out. Couple of washed up O-lineman or scrub MMA guys settling the beef and putting asses in seats.It may save baseball
