You had to hear the icy-cold old people fear in her voice just as I did. “Technology is great, but driverless cars?” If this were 50 years ago I bet you could replace that sentence with “Desegregation is great, but interracial marriage?” and her tone would’ve been exactly the same. That’s a core emotion for people over 65. CHANGE FEAR. It scares them more than slippery bathtubs and Wilford Brimley diabeetus warnings.
It’s a shame, too, because I’m tired of almost murdering people when I drive home from the bar. I’ll take my risks on the road with ToyotaBot 3000 over Steve from accounting with 6 martinis and rejection rage any day.
