HuffPo – A shooting at Harlem’s famed Rucker Park basketball court left four men and a teenager hurt Wednesday night, just four days after a 4-year-old was shot and killed at a Bronx hoops tournament. Wednesday’s shooting apparently followed a courtside argument over a referee’s call, police said. Shots rang out from the stands shortly after 11 p.m., scattering hundreds of basketball fans, including former New York Knicks star Nate Robinson. They had packed the court to watch the Entertainers Basketball Classic, which pits some of the best street ball players against each other from June through August. “It was a dispute,” a police source said. He added the argument over the ref’s call was “possibly what led to it.” A 16-year-old boy and four men in their 20s were each struck once by bullets, police said.
I’m reading through all of these comments on WorldStar about how this is why black people get frisked then the black people responding with Dark Knight shooting stuff and the whole thing is just like a slightly darker version of the YouTube comment section. Ugly stuff. Yet through all this conversation and commotion nobody here is talking about what really matters: was it really a blown call?
I mean if dude’s gonna shoot up the Rucker and send five people to the emergency room, the very least we can do as a journalistic society is look at the video and decide whether my man had a point or not. Was the ref crooked? Was there a whistle on an all-ball block? Or was just man just suffering from some kind of “mental illness“?
The people deserve to know.
