Philly.com – According to John Heyman of CBS Sports, Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee was claimed off waivers. This comes on the heels of the news that the Phillies traded Joe Blanton to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies now have two options. They can either pull Lee off waivers and work out a trade with the team that claimed him, or they can just let him walk. With the first scenario, the Phillies would likely have to pay a portion of Lee’s salary. It has been widely speculated over the past few weeks that any deal involving Lee would include the Phillies eating some of his remaining contract. If they let him walk, however, he would take his entire contract with him.
SI – Right-hander Joe Blanton has been traded to the Dodgers after Los Angeles claimed him on waivers. Blanton will join outfielder Shane Victorino, who was sent from the Phillies to Los Angeles on Tuesday. Philadelphia also dealt outfielder Hunter Pence to San Francisco earlier this week. The 31-year-old Blanton is 8-9 with a 4.59 ERA in 20 starts and one relief appearance. He is making $8.5 million and, like Victorino, can become a free agent after the season. Philadelphia will receive a player to be named or cash as part of Friday’s trade. To fill the roster spot, the Phillies recalled right-hander B.J. Rosenberg from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
What the fuck is going on!?
UPDATE:
Okay so while we still may not know what jerk team claimed Clifton off waivers yet, what we do know is that most reports say it’s a “long shot” that the guy is traded. And as long as that’s the case this doesn’t bother me. But if something happens and we get screwed on some bogus Cliff Lee trade Ruben better be ready for Philadelphia to come at him with pitchforks and torches.
