pft – Michael Vick is the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback. Eagles coach Chip Kelly made it official on Tuesday, declaring that he had seen enough to believe that Vick is the man to run his offense. Kelly said Vick and Nick Foles had a “healthy competition” but that he determined Vick was far enough ahead that it was time to name him the starter. Kelly said Foles took the news well, and Kelly praised Foles for his professionalism.
And now we can finally move on.
Anyone who has watched the preseason games knew this was coming. Foles played well — probably well enough that he could start for a few other teams out there — but not better than Vick. It’s become a cliche over the past month or so but Mike is a “perfect fit” for this offense. Doesn’t have to think about anything except counting how many guys are in the box. That’s really it. Add in Mike’s speed, arm power, and NFL experience and you have a no-brainer decision.
You see this play at 2:34? Vick’s the only QB on the roster who could make that play. Play-action bubble screen to the right, avoid the sack, and roll out left into another option? That’s the kind of sideline-to-sideline pressure Chip wants to put on the D and what Vick brings to the table.
So that’s that. Michael Vick it is.
