Gus Bradley Heading To Interview With Jaguars Because Apparently Jeff Lurie And I Are The Only People Who Like Howie Roseman

Lurie’s conducting the search with Roseman and team president Don Smolenski, but Roseman’s the one in La Canfora’s bull’s-eye. “I wish I had a dollar for every time someone told me one esteemed coach or another advised one of the Eagles’ top candidates not to take the job precisely because of Roseman’s presence there,” he wrote on www.cbssports.com this morning. Note the gossiplike reporting: No candidate or “esteemed coach” is directly quoted or named as a source, and all the insinuations seem to no better than second-hand. Yet no holds are barred. “The rumblings about Roseman lacking nuance and foresight, about him turning people off with how drunk with power he’s become, only grow louder as his coaching search grows stranger,” La Canfora writes. “Roseman isn’t the general manager they should tie their wagon to,” he continues. “It’s clear Chip Kelly wasn’t leaving Oregon for anywhere unless he had a large measure of control over the organization, and owner Jeffrey Lurie has already entrusted that to Roseman. There has been trepidation by some candidates to go all-in given the questions about this existing power structure.” Roseman is also “trying to fight a growing perception around the league that he is woefully out of his depth,” La Canfora says.

Anybody who knows me on this blog knows that I fucks with Howie Roseman. The man has been in the top five of my Hebrew Power Rankings for months now, so all of these “reports” that he’s the main force driving away the Chip Kelly’s and Gus Bradley’s of the world is unsettling. Yet when I read these reports I can only manage to have one lasting thought: fuck ‘em.

Fuck all those coaches who want total control. We had that for the past howmany years after Andy assumed control and it’s obvious that’s not how the Eagles want to start things under a new regime. Howie Roseman is a powerful figure in the Eagles’ organization because he needs to be. Because Howie has proven in this last draft that he’s an excellent talent evaluator. Because being a head football coach doesn’t qualify someone to be a scout. And because Howie can get deals done that other GMs can’t. Remember the “Dream Team”? While it was an outset dumbshit failure decision by Big Red to assemble all those big names, it was Roseman on the phone closing those deals. Was Nnamdi an enormous failure? Sure. But it was Roseman’s wheeling and dealing that took the Eagles from not in the race to signing the biggest free agent name in years.

If Gus and his stupid name didn’t want to deal with Howie buying the groceries, then he can go coach the fucking Jaguars. I’d rather roll with a shitty coach this year and maybe next and draft/sign great players than hire an excellent coach and have him try to turn Colt Anderson and Danny Watkins into viable starters.

Keep your chin up, Howie. The draft is far more important than the coach right now.

PS – If Howie Roseman was 6 feet tall, 50 years old, and built like a linebacker this wouldn’t even be an issue. I’m convinced coaches are afraid of taking orders from a weasely 30-something whose never played football before, regardless of how valuable his input actually is.

The Howie Roseman you like is the Andy Reid era Roseman who was really just an assistant to Andy. Guarantee you Roseman sees Andy's firing as a promotion for him and is now, as the article says, drunk with power. Since all good coaches want to be able to control the players they bring in, it makes sense that all the best candidates hate the guy.

Couldn't agree with you more Mo. Fuck every one of these coaches who wants full control. It's not like any of them are the next Lombardi, Shula, or even Belichick. You have to earn a request like that, can't just say you want it from the getgo

I agree with just about everything you said Mo. Rose is a great deal maker and pretty good talent evaluator. Last draft was the first time he pretty much made the picks and there are a helluva a lot more hits than misses. Bryce Brown, while still a little raw, looks like a fucking steal in the 7th. It looks like now that anyone we hire will more than likely be a first time NFL head coach. A first time, first year head coach should not have total control. I don't see how it could be that bad working with him that decent coaches would turn down multi-million dollar contracts to coach the fucking Jaguars for peanuts.

i think bradley is just honoring his word on interviewing with the jaguars. still think theres a good shot he goes with the birds, either way they gotta finish this process by the end of the week. a good head coach is only tip of the iceberg you need a solid staff as well so they need to wrap this thing up. But chill with your messiah-like praise of rosebud Mo, he needs a couple more solid drafts before you leave his dick in your mouth
