Saturday vs Pittsburgh:
The real story here is the passion this city has for its team. Gotta hand it to our hockey fans who came out in droves for the season opener, setting a regular season attendance record. Gold star Philly. The crowd was electric and in playoff mode the whole game. It has to be great to play hockey in Philly. Two days prior we sold out practice…not a game… practice. So that means you gotta win this game for us, and validate our incessant Crosby Sucks chants. But that didn’t happen did it. Here’s three big reasons
1. 0 for 5 on the Powerplay.
2. Lost 56% of the faceoffs.
3. Fleury played really well.

Sunday @ Buffalo:
Fatigue day. A lot of flat footedness early on in back to back games here, which is bad cause you’re supposed to have on razor sharp skates while playing hockey. Slow starts, penalties, and early goals against better not become a trend.
Besides that, we got two goals taken away on bullshit. Fedotenko wasn’t even in the crease and barely brushed by Miller and got the goal waived off on the weakest call of the season. I hope goalie interference doesn’t become the roughing the passer of the NHL. Get the ice out of your vagina refs. That was sad. Then in the third, in the midst of a comeback, Whistlegate happens. If the rule is based on intent, than that is the dumbest shit I ever heard. That’s strait up Minority Report. Its not about intent of the whistle, its the sound of the whistle, and its been that way forever. I mean, a fart isn’t a fart until its out the ass. There’s been plenty of times where I intended to fart, and then for some reason or another choked it back. Maybe it had substance behind, or whatever, point is that puck was in the net when the ref farted through his stupid little ass whistle and cost us a chance at a huge comeback. That’s why we lost. Oh and because Vanek and Pominville played out of their minds. 0-2-0.
This weekend wasn’t all bad though, Giroux had a nice hustle goal in game 1 to set the tone for this season.
Then ripped a beauty past Miller on the powerplay in game 2.
So at least he still looks awesome.
Wayne Simmonds is playing well with a newly inspired aggressive net presence. He’s drawing penalties and getting into tough areas which is bound to payoff in production sooner or later.
18 year old Scott Laughton looks good. He had an impressive couple shifts, splitting the D up the middle in the first period, and crossing over another defender in the 3rd certainly opened my eyes. Will probably go back to Juniors when Danny B comes back, but he’s potentially a player to be excited about. I hope he stays.
Throw out the 2 empty netters from games 1 and 2, and the Flyers have had 5 out of the 6 goals against them while killing penalties. So that means, we’re doing well 5 on 5, which is encouraging. Now all we have to do is skate harder and stop taking penalties, or fix the penalty kill units.
Certainly not gonna freak out about anything just yet.
LET’S GO FLYERS!
