The complexity and intensity of Big Red’s internal dialogue over the past 72 hours must’ve taken years off of his life. Surely he went back and relived all of the moments he shared with Garrett, but the questions of whether his job had an impact on the addictions his son battled also had to surface. Remembrance, doubt, self-loathing, sorrow, anger, fear — all of that stuff had to be whirling around Andy’s head since he heard the news. And, oh yeah, he still has to be the Head Coach for a team whose expectations couldn’t be higher. Feel bad for the dude.
But this is why he’s great at what he does and why he’s a professional. Because even after something as tragic as his son’s death, the man is back at training camp and ready to run through an injury report. If that ain’t leadership then leadership doesn’t exist.
This team needs to win him a championship. It’s time.
