Why The Hell Would Anyone Ever Want To Live On Mars?

CNNMars One, a group that plans to send humans on a one-way trip to Mars, has announced its final 100 candidates. They have been selected from 200,000 applicants and will go on to further testing later this year, which they expect to include team-building exercises and later, isolation. Eventually, 24 will be selected to make up six crews of four, which Mars One says they hope to launch to the Red Planet every two years from 2024, with the aim of starting a colony there.

The idea of going to Mars is pretty sweet. Going to Mars for vacation on a long weekend sounds great. Maybe bring a few of your friends along and make it an annual getaway. But taking a one-way trip to Mars and actually living there would have to be the worst experience imaginable and the fact that at least 200,000 people applied to do just that blow my mind away. Think about it for a second; how many professional sports teams do they have on Mars? Zero. How many Qdoba’s do they have on Mars? Zero. How many anything of your favorite things do they have on Mars? Most likely zero. But yet here are 200,000 people who thought to themselves that, yup, that’s something that they’d be interested in doing. Hell, people make fun of Trent enough for being from Iowa. Imagine what life would be like on mother effing Mars? I just can’t for the life of me understand how anyone in their right mind could ever just sign up to get shot into space for the rest of their lives for no good reason. Oh and hey, Mars One Project. If you’re trying to start a colony on Mars, maybe you should find some better applicants than this.

Going up to Mars for the rest of your life is one thing, trying to populate a planet with this broad is a completely different level of crazy. Woof.

P.S. – Just saw that this was talked about on today’s Daily Mail that KFC posted. So listen to that here.
