The Good, The Bad And The Ugly From The Physical And Emotional Beatdown The Seahawks Gave The Eagles

joe

(I didn’t listen to the broadcast but I can only assume it was a rough one.)

Let’s face it, the Eagles were beaten by a better, Super Bowl team. No if’s, and’s or but’s about it. Russell Wilson is just so damn dependable and that defense is one of the best in decades when it wants to be. They’re so beyond aggressive it hurts. I said it yesterday, that secondary either belongs in jail or on the Eagles roster. They completely shut down the receivers the entire game and even when balls were caught they were right there to make the play. The Eagles were only down by 10 and it felt like a 10 million. I’m not going to dwell on the loss because it’s #DALLASWEEK again, so here’s a quick recap.

GOOD:

LeSean McCoy is now the Eagles all-time leading rusher. That’s cool. And that’s it for the good. Actually, you CAN’T hate on this team’s heart and hustle. There were times in the Andy Reid era where squads would roll over and die when the going got tough. These guys, especially the defense, played with a motor the entire game.

BAD:

The Refs – Both ways. No wonder the Seahawks are 6-1 under this officiating crew. There were times the Eagles receivers were MANHANDLED downfield and nobody even blinked. And I get Russell Wilson enjoys playing Madden and takes a 40 step drop back before running around for 12 seconds, but there were times he never left the pocket, threw the ball 80 yards out of bounds and intentional grounding wasn’t called. Also, THIS:

The Eagles Secondary - I saw what a championship defensive backfield looked like yesterday, and I need to taste it for real.

UGLY:

The ENTIRE Offense – There’s no splitting hairs here, EVERYONE needs to be held responsible for putting up only 14 points (7 of which were essentially given to us thanks to the punter’s stone fingers). 139 yards? Bullshit. Having only 1 drive that went for more than 25 yards is abysmal, and even that possession was helped by a long (possibly phantom) pass interference call on a ball to Ertz. The running game was shut down. The O-Line was beaten constantly. I didn’t think Sanchez played THAT bad, but he doesn’t look like a guy that can take over and win games on his own. For being an offensive genius who’s put up on a pedestal for his halftime adjustments, Chip Kelly’s playcalling went nowhere. Nothing was getting it done yesterday.

Missed Opportunities Combined With Critical Mistakes – Think about it. If Shady doesn’t fumble on the first play after half and Jenkins takes an easy interception right in his breadbasket to the house, it’s arguably a W for the Eagles. Like I said, 10 points felt like 10 million, but they were right in the game till (almost) the end.

No Free Dunkin’ – You don’t now what you’ve got till it’s gone.

And that’s all she wrote. Onward and upward. It’s Dallas week, again, and this time it’s for keeps. LET’S GO.
