Breaking Down The World's Worst Shootout Attempt Ever

Last week we saw this nifty move in the Div I Group B 2015 IIHF World Championships. One of the smoother goals you’ll see all year. However, things seemed to have gone a little differently in the Div II Group A tournament which was recently held in Iceland (turns out Iceland actually kinda sucks at ice hockey. Long gone are the glory days of Gunnar Stahl). Here we have Marko Milovanovic from Serbia attempting to put the team on his back and give those dirty Serbs the edge over the Spaniards, who apparently play hockey as well. Let’s try to breakdown what happened here and see where things went awry for the kid.

See that? Right at the beginning there. Looks like he was setting himself up for that triple deke the old geezer taught him. But if you look closely, about a split second after he picked up the puck, you can see the Milovanovic just appears to lose and edge and fall. And that’s about it. Pretty sure that’s where the train ran off the tracks for young Marko here. Serbia is an ass backwards nation that’s always in some state of conflict so either this kid just assumed he was about to be taken out by a sniper and had to hit the deck, or he owes someone somewhere some money. Or he just stinks at hockey. Could go either way. Helluva save by the keeper though. Haven’t seen agility like that inbetween the pipes since The People’s Goalie made a mockery out of Sunrise, Florida.

P.S. – Stadium looked like it was poppin off. Tickets probably cost something along the lines of Mayweather v Pacquiao.

P.P.S. – Wouldn’t be right to blog about a shootout attempt that takes place in Iceland without adding the most suspenseful moment in cinematic history.
