Runners World – New York-area registrants for the canceled New York City Marathon have been picking up their finishers’ medals at the New York Road Runners office, Runner’s World Newswire has learned. NYRR has not advertised the distribution and has not said whether out-of-town registrants will be mailed a medal. But on the Prospect Park Track Club Google group, a local runners’ list-serv, a post on Monday read, “A running friend was walking by NYRR and emailed that they are giving away medals to those registered for the NYCM.” Others on the list-serv confirmed that they had gone to the NYRR office on East 89th Street in Manhattan and received a finisher’s medal. Manhattan resident Helen Dole picked up her medal Tuesday night. “A staff member took my name down in a notebook and gave me a medal. I didn’t show ID,” Dole told Runner’s World Newswire.
Welp thats marathoners in a nutshell. Just give me my medal that I never earned so that I can go the rest of my life saying I ran a marathon to try and impress people. Buncha losers. I used to think there was nothing worse than giving out ribbons and medals and trophies to people who simply participated in a competition. Well I think giving out participant medals for an event that nobody participated in because it got completely canceled takes the cake. I mean what the fuck is even the point of that? Reminds me of the time I saw the piece of the Aggro Crag on eBay. Yea, it would be fuckin awesome to have a piece of the Crag in my apartment. But what kind of an asshole to you have to be to proudly display another mans trophy? Same shit. What kind of a dick do you have to be to pick up a medal for an event you never ran? A marathon dick. Thats who.
