I’m not a picky guy. A win is a win is a win, I don’t really care how it looks. Cue up all the Giants haters who are amped to point out the G-Men struggled against a team like the Bucs at home so I can cue up a big “fuck off”. This is more like the Giants being the Giants. The team who plays up or down to their competition, can’t defend the pass or run the ball & digs themselves in a hole for Eli to pull them all out of in the 4th quarter. I’ve seen this blueprint before, so bashing any of these traits is pointless. If Eli prefers throwing a gimmie TD to Will Beatty over Ahmad Bradshaw or decides the 2nd quarter is as good a time as any to toss 3 picks, that’s fine. I ride or die with my elite QB & his 510 yards. Speaking of death, I wish that upon every Big Blue CB. Justin Tryon couldn’t cover a table, Prince will now officially be known as “Princess” & C-Web, supposedly the one good corner on the roster, got picked on in the first half like he was wearing Tryon’s jersey. But they were just as porous last year. And the ground game was non-existent until Andre Brown stepped in and ran like a hungry son of a bitch who wants a job. David Wilson (6 offensive plays) just took a little more of a back seat.
Truth be told, the game wasn’t THAT bad. There’s not too many teams in the NFL who can come back from a two-score deficit in the 4th quarter, so for as bad as NY looked at times, it’s still an impressive win. A pair of easy first-half TD drops & the tilted field as a result of the turnovers gave the Buccaneers false hope. TB scored just 10 points when they actually had to drive. The only thing missing is what’s supposedly the Giants’ biggest strength. When you have a secondary as bad they do, even Josh Freeman can look like Joe Montana with 10 seconds in the pocket. Pass rush, please?
As for the whole Coughlin-Schiano controversy, I honestly don’t think it’s a big deal. I get why TC & the Giants are calling it bush league, but if I’m a new head coach with a young team, the one thing I want to see is my team playing through every single whistle. I understand the “unwritten rule”, but just because NY was ready to take the victory doesn’t mean the Bucs had to give it to them. No one was out there to put someone on IR. If you’re on the field and there’s time on the clock, be ready to play.
Anyway, the Giants are tied with just about the entire NFC at 1-1 and they beat Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay beat Carolina in Week 1, so logic dictates the Giants will beat Carolina on Thursday regardless of who’s healthy. No reason to play the game, really…
