MIAMI — If games continue with each member of the Big III scoring XIX or more points, the Heat are good bets to be hoisting a trophy in MMXII. If you don’t know what the heck that means, consider Miami star LeBron James during this playoffs is wearing a mouthguard that reads on the front “XVI.” That’s 16 in Roman numerals, and that is how many postseason wins it will take the Heat to get James his first championship. “You pay attention,” James said to a reporter. “It’s just inspirational. I know this is the biggest part of the season, the second part of the season, so it’s just an inspiration for me.”
Classic Lebron. Just classic. I’m not gonna go make a huge deal out of this because at the end of the day its really not. Plenty of athletes use tattoos and locker room themes and symbols for inspiration. The Giants with their All In Poker chips is a perfect example. But, its classic Lebron in the sense that its just yet another move for attention. Another move for his image. Taking the time to create a custom mouth guard for everyone to see every time he opens his mouth. Its harmless enough, but its just another unnecessary “look at me, look at me” moment. Its just another instance where I say to myself “Who they fuck would even take the time to worry about that shit?” Does wearing a mouth guard with the Roman numerals for 16 really motivate Lebron to win 16 games and take home his first NBA Title? Of course not. Its just another way for King James to keep all eyes on him. Another gimmick for the egomaniac to stay in the papers.
The saddest part is the guy has had such an unbelievable season and has looked so sharp so far in the playoffs, if he wasn’t wearing a custom mouth guard people would probably be talking about his play. But instead he thinks its cool and unique to wearing a XVI mouth guard and once again has people chirping about his image. Its just like Arod. These guys can’t get out of their own way.
