Look last week was an abomination. Put it out of sight, out of mind. There’s a reason why Rex didn’t even have the team watch game tape from the matchup with Cincy. This team is light years better than what they showed last Sunday. Just put it behind you and get back to basics at home today against New Orleans.
Obviously the Saints are the superior team here. A lot of weapons that present a lot of issues. But they haven’t faced a defense even remotely as good as the Jets. If the Snack Exchange pressures Brees, this Saints offense isn’t as unstoppable as it seems. There’s been a lot of grumblings about Cromartie covering Jimmy Graham, and if Coples, Pace and the rest of the linebacker core step up to limit Sproles and Thomas, its not all that crazy to think about the Jets shutting down some of NO’s biggest assets.
Offensively, its the same story as always. Need Geno to limit turnovers and make a few key tosses. It seems like sometimes the difference between a Jets win or loss comes down to a single series or a single play here and there for Geno. In every Jets win there’s usually a moment where, looking back in hindsight with 20/20, you realize was the turning point. A key 3rd down conversion or an important scramble to keep a drive alive as opposed to a forced INT. If Geno makes those plays, they seem to be in a much better position to win. It basically comes down to which Ryan Brother can fluster the opposing quarterback. Obviously a much tougher task for Rex, but he has far superior defensive weapons to do it. Its gonna be a big, fat ass Ryan Brother chess match. Should just have them Sumo Wrestle at mid field to decide today’s game.
Bottom line is its another opportunity for the Jets at home in their own building today. Is it a challenge? Absolutely. If they play like they did last week, will they be annihilated? 100%. But all season this team has bounced back from bad losses and risen to the occasion when people least expect. Another chance to surprise the haters and take yet another step towards the playoff hunt.
