    The whole league should be grateful that Manning didn't sign with San Francisco.  That team would have won the next 3 Super Bowls.  That defense almost won the Super Bowl by themselves.

    @ Iron Eagle,   SF has one receiver, playing tight end. Nothing else. Or at least that was the scenario last year. They would've won the SB last year with Smith, only reason why they didn't is that for some reason, Mr Butterfingers was allowed to stand there and return punts. Would've been just as difficult for Manning to throw to receivers when Davis was doubleteamed the whole second half. Michael Crabtree doesn't become a great player just because you add a new QB.

    @langdon - just playing devil's advocate, but I don't think anyone was inferring what peyton would do with last year's teams, his neck was broken. but lets say the 49ers signed him to a 3 year deal......they have their entire D returning, plus added manningham and (what's left of) moss. i don't know about you, but i feel pretty confident in saying that if manning were throwing to davis, crabtree, manningham, gore, and moss behind a decent O line, i'd give them a lot of thought on making the super bowl too
